Hammer Anger vs Morich Awesome Hook
« on: July 31, 2007, 04:54:35 AM »
I am deciding which one to buy for Heavy Oil. If anyone owns
both or has compared it to with a friend who has one or the other, please
give me your experience and opinion.

These 2 balls are apples to oranges..lol

The Awesome would run circles around the Anger in true heavy oil...

That's not exactly true. Try putting an Anger at 320 grit and then roll it against the Awesome Hook. You'd have to even the surfaces to see how they would fair.

About any ball would be useless at 320 unless it is a TRUE flood condition. Even if they were at the same grit, the Hook is going to be stronger or, have the potential to be stronger than the Anger. It has alot more of a core than the anger has by a good margin.

Here are the numbers,

Anger,
RG Differential: 0.045 (Medium Flare) on a scale of .000-.080 Low Flare-High Flare
RG Average: 2.50 (Low) on a scale of 2.43-2.80 Very Low-High Break Point
Finish: 2000 Grit Abralon Sanded

Awsome Hook,

Core Type: Strong Asymmetrical
Mass Bias Differential: .028
60 Degree Avg. Spin Time: 5.1 seconds
Coverstock: C4 Enhanced Reactive
Factory Finish: 500 Matte
Flare Potential: Large
Differential: .055
RG: 2.498

I have the ANGER and had the AWESOME HOOK.  These two balls are very similar in reaction.  Both are strong through out the lane.

The AWESOME HOOK is very strong in box condition which is 400 grit.  This ball works well on heavier/long patterns.  I brought the cover up on mine to 1000 grit abralon which gave it a sweet reaction.

The ANGER comes with a 2000 grit surface and work well on oil.  I have not used this ball on a long pattern this summer.  I think 40' was the longest so far but had a good amount of oil.  It was very strong on this pattern.  There's no doubt in my mind that the ANGER will kick butt on heavy/long patterns.

If there's ever two balls from different companies that are similar in reaction it's these two.

Which to buy?  Both balls are good for heavier/longer patterns.  The AWESOME HOOK is asymmetrical while the ANGER is symmetrical.  The AWESOME HOOK cost a lot more than the ANGER.  Both balls hit and carry great. You can't go wrong with either one!

I personally like the ANGER a bit more because it's symmetrical and cheaper. Plus it being 2000 grit OOB, gives one plenty of room to dull the ball down for even more hook.

So pick your poison.  You can't go wrong with either one.

And for those that think the AH will run circles around the ANGER need to think again!  If both balls were at the same cover grit they would be very close in reaction.  The AH has a stronger core (asymmetrical) while the ANGER has a stronger cover.
