HARDCORE GRIND - why was it overlooked?

i think the Grind is an excellent ball when the lanes break down. very good length and a strong turn with continuation, and hits extremely hard. that is what i see with this ball. overall a very good ball from Hammer. was it overlooked?

My guess would be that it didn't have a lot of shelf appeal. Granted, that is a subjective statement, but I believe it to be true for the Grind.

Yes yes, I know - looks shouldn't matter, but the truth is that they DO matter to sales, and this piece wasn't exciting to look at. This is too bad, because I have also heard that it's a great ball.

It was a polished benchmark. They never garner any press because they don't handle super heavy oil, they don't skid 55 feet and make a left turn across 47 boards. They do their job day in and day out with no glory because they just do the job. The unseen heroes.

It's all about marketing today. Look how fast they discontinue balls and come out with new ones. I had both the Grind and Brawl. They complimented each other for medium conditions. Both are very easy to read. The grind definitely was a good benchmark for Hammer.

2 reasons.  As was said, lack of shelf appeal is a big factor, like it or not.  Some of the greatest balls has rough shelf appeal and didnt sell well, often went unnoticed.
 
Second, while both Hardcore balls did perform well at times, they to me, never seemed to give you a look on the lanes that other balls didnt, and others did it better.
 
All balls will match up with someone, its just a matter of which balls match up and perform well to a broader number of bowlers.
