Title: Hammer Everclear
Post by: sLiiTcH on December 26, 2003, 10:20:03 AM
Alright i'm beginning in the world of bowling so don't tell me it's a stupid question please.

I'm about to buy my own ball (first ball) and I saw that hammer everclear on www.bowling.com . I need a mild hook ball. What do you think of the everclear. how good is it. it sure looks SICK but how does it performs

I would not get this ball. If you get finger grips installed, the ball cracks out around the grips. I had one and had to have it repaired two times when it cracked out. I finally sold it.

Regardless of that, the Everclear is a spare ball, NOT a ball used for strikes. I don't think you would be happy with this ball as your primary ball.

Unless you can flatten out your shot they all are going to be tough on the tens.

but If I had to carry one ball. My choiuces would be :

predator Pursuit. surface changes to this ball make it useable from fresh to 3 rd shift.

Sling Blade: most med- to dry house condition.

Blue Sparkle Gryphon- med -light

Just a few. surface prep and drillings matter the most.

I'm not sure what you mean by bowling "good", but if you only want to use 1 ball, go for something in the mid-price range that is versatile for medium-oil to medium-dry, and doesn't have a big flip on the backend of it, that will make it easier to pick up corner pins.  Some good choices would be a Brunswick Monster Smash/R, Storm Super Charge, Storm Hot Wire, Hammer Blade Particle, or a Roto Grip Silver Streak.  I'm probably the wrong guy to ask about picking one ball to go with, but those would be my choices.

For the first question the everclear is not the way to go, it is strictly a spare ball, no good for a strike ball unless you throw straight, but you said your looking for a slight hook. As for the second question, if I were you, I wouldnt try to do "good" with just one ball. If you get a nice strike ball, and a cheap spare, it will improve your game so much just on spares. It is so much easier to pick up spares with a spare ball, then with a strike ball, especially if you throw a big hook. Though if you REALLY want to just bowl with one ball, it doesnt matter what kind of ball you get, you'll just have to learn to release the correct way and you can throw it straight.

being a hammerhead, I would go with the blade pearl or (from what I have read) the slingblade.

if you go another route, the monster frenzy is a hellava deal
