Hammer NU Blue Hammer   @15lbs  2.586  .027
WWRD 11/16/2023   12-16 lbs   Alternate cores 14 & 12-13 lbs.
Core- LED             Coverstock- Not Urethane (NEW)
There will be a lot of discussion about the Hammer NU Blue. While urethane balls have been embraced, rejected and subjected to rule changes, the Hammer office went to work on how to give the same type of ball reaction without being defined as urethane. The result is NU=Not Urethane. Using the same core as the Purple Pearl, you will see a difference in the RG and Diff numbers. This is due to the density of urethane. Having the same smooth, controllable ball reaction is a must for challenging lane conditions. Great color on this one!
Box Surface- 500/1000 Siaair      Color- Bad Ass Blue Pearl

The RG and Differential numbers should be the same if it’s the same core.  The cover doesn’t change the RG or Differential.

It does though, the purple urethane has no filler, thus urethane to the core. The NU cover isn't the same density and therefore the core density had to be changed. Makes for quite a big difference in diff. Seeing a couple of them local by staffers and I think the NU is going to go over really well, but not because it replaces the Purple Urethane, it compliments it and for those that think they need urethane for house, the NU will fill that spot way better than the Purple Urethane does. Seeing the NU vs Purple Urethane in person by one of the touring PBA guys on staff in my neck of the woods, i'd bet on the NU being regular, weak, reactive, it's a lot cleaner, and quicker off the dry, still a very smooth ball overall, but not that close to urethane in shape.

I'm not sure how close they are to the Purple, but I am impressed with what I've seen of them so far. Three guys in my sport league have them so far. One is kind of a knuckle fudger so I can't get much of a read from then. Another is kind a classic stroker. He typically throws a red Brunswick (Attitude) urethan on shorter patterns and the NU is a little stronger overall and stronger and quite a bit more continuous down lane. My team mate is a Hammer urethane junkie. He's a higher speed heavy handed guy who throws his purple on just about everything. We were on Cheetah last week and the lanes got a little funky after a while. Neither his Purple or Pink gave him a good look, so he pulled out his NU right out of the box. The NU is probably a little cleaner than the Purple and for him it's quite a bit more down lane and again very continuous. Both guys had super good looks with the NU and the carry was super good. I haven't seen the original banned/"cheater" Purples but based on the descriptions I've read, I would guess that the NU would be a pretty good replacement. It can be sneaky strong, so it might be more ball than you're thinking of when it comes to a urethane replacement. Regardless, the NU looks like a winner than you will see everywhere. I wasn't planning on getting one originally, but the reaction is tempting. It just sort of reads the lane where and how you want, at least on shorter sport shots where these types of balls excel.
