The Hammer Effect - WWRD 3/21/24

Hammer dropped this one today, which should be coming out at the same time as the Black Pearl Urethane.

Wow. Where to start.. okay, the core. It looks like Hammer told the Vibe and the Black Widow to go off on a honeymoon and go make some babies. The core looks like a combination of the Vibe core and the Gas Mask core. It's a BIG core, which initially had me thinking that it was going to be something unusable like the Entreme Envy...

I'm wrong. This ball looks phenomenal HK22, plus Cohesion on a pearl looks to replace the BW Widow Pearls I have, which means this ball definitely has a spot in my bag. This with a Widow 2.0 Hybrid and a Widow 3.0 would be a good widow family bag, along with the Envy Tour for the benchmark.

However...

What everyone is starting to take interest in (especially with Ron Hickland)... is the SCENT. Yes, scent. Apparently he smelled something similar to orange peel or citrus in this ball, as opposed to the petroleum normally in balls from Hammer, so something didn't sound right. He did some digging, and knew that Storm had the patent on adding scents to bowling balls (they had applied for that patent in 2010, and was awarded the patent in 2011).. Upon looking it up as of today, the status of that patent is ABANDONED, meaning that everyone can use it. Granted the scent of a ball is just purely marketing, Storm marketed the scent of a ball A LOT; for them to lose that marketing tool... someone fell asleep in Utah.

Anyway, This ball is looking good; Hickland, BrunsNick, LSR, Luke, and CTD all have reviews of it up, and each one looks phenomenal.

There are usually 1 or 2 new bowling balls a year that I call "special" and early returns show this is one that fits that category. The Hammer Effect for me, in limited games has been really good. It is much more ball than I expected out of a pearl (Cohesion Pearl). It is shiny, but reads the mid-lane very well and continues to rev up thru the pins. The new Huntsman core is supposed to be the best of the Widow & Vibe cores. As I continued left I was surprised to see the ball still splitting the 8-9. Usually the deeper I move the more deflection I get.  The eye test was telling me this ball was still exiting the back of the pin deck in a very strong position. The Hammer Effect will be heard from a lot this year. Great looking too.

I love this one. Nice overall consistent roll. More like a benchmark pearl for the symmetrical ball. I drilled min 60 x 4 x 30 which creates nice length and quick response to friction downlane. It has great Hammer ball motion and does not disappoint.. Get to your local pro shop to get one before its to late.
