PAIN, BW and NM!
« on: November 13, 2006, 05:04:30 PM »
I have read that some are finding that the BW is not a good mid lane grabbing type of ball.  This is true because it's best suited for length and back end.

I feel if a person is looking for a ball that has a strong back end like the BW but with more of a mid lane grab then the NM is the ball of choice.

If a bowler is looking for a ball that has a strong mid lane and strong but controllable backend then the PAIN is the ball to grab.

I'm going to make this point.  Don't look past the RAW HAMMER PAIN.  This ball is not only great on heavier oil but is killer on tough lane patterns.  This ball is plenty strong!  Even though Hammer has the great NM and BW the PAIN is right up there with them.

These 3 balls have there place.  There all strong but work differently on the lanes.  So keep this in mind if your looking to buy another ball.  Find the one that suits your needs the best.

I have all 3 of these and am giving you my best view on the 3.

If i'm looking for a ball that can glide through the heads and mid -lane but really wheel on the back end the BW is a great choice.

If i'm looking for a ball that grabs pretty good in the mid-lane and is really strong on the back end the NM is a great choice.

If i'm looking for a ball that is strong in the mid-lane and strong but controllable on the back end the PAIN is a great choice.

All three balls hit and react great.  Just find the ones that is best for your game and conditions.

I'm a big fan of the Pain as well.  I have a BW now, but I don't know if it will see much use.  The Pain is so useful in such a variety of conditions that I hardly feel the need to ever put it away.  Under what conditions WOULD you want a ball that reacts like the Widow, with the huge backend?

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bell Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Ryan I love the PAIN and DOOM as you well know.  Those two balls are my favorite.

Yes the PAIN is useful on so many conditions that it's hard not to use it.

The BW with it's length and big back end are good for a few different types of conditions that I have seen.

1. A lane condition that has a lot of miss area and dry boards outside like you typical house shot.

2. A condition that has a localized carry down area.  So in order to combat that you want to go around that area but need the big back end to recover.

3. A condition that forces you inside but really needs the ball to glide thru the super dry mid lane but have enough back end to come back and recover.  This is the 1 type of difficult pattern that I see the BW working well on; reverse block!

Now I bowl on these tough patterns all the time and I have found the PAIN to be the best tough lane condition ball along with the DOOM.  Now I have not had great success with the BW on tough patterns except the reverse block.  That's one condition that a polished BW would excel on.

Now the Pain can work on #1 and #2 but may have trouble on #3 unless it's polished.

Another thing to think about is the reaction shape.  Sometimes all a bowler needs is a different reaction shape into the pocket to get better carry.  So if you have both the PAIN and BW one may carry better even playing similar lines because they have different angels into the pocket.

I hope this helps Ryan.

I believe, though I haven't thrown it, the HZ would be a stronger overall ball than the Pain.  Probably just a few boards, but stronger.  I would also expect the HZ to be more backend than the midlane of the Pain.  The Pain is a smooth reacting , strong hooking ball, where I would expect the HZ to go longer and have more of a snap at the end.

Lucky I think you would like the Pain since you like your DOOM.  The PAIN handles more oil and is a great ball for those tough lane conditions.
