How do the Doom and the Pain compare?
« on: July 13, 2006, 01:24:10 AM »
I love my Doom so much, I'm considering moving to an all Hammer arsenal.  All I have now is the Doom, but I'm on the verge of picking up the Vibe and I'll need something for the wetter stuff too.  I know the Pain has the same weightblock, but I've never thrown anything with the juiced cover, so I don't know what the strength is.  What are the early returns on the Pain?  Is it skid/flippy, or a smoother reaction?  What is the OOB grit?  What conditions do you use it on?  I need something to go above the Doom, and I'd like to keep it to a simple, 3 ball arsenal.

???   Heavy
Doom  Medium
Vibe  Light

Stop trying to impress other people, people mostly care about what you're saying about them not you.

The Pain is stronger in the midlane with a similar hook shape as the Doom. Juiced coverstocks handle oil better so it won't push too far down the lane where the Doom might not recover in time.

That's right. I said it!

For heavier oil u should try the Black Widow.  Its another go long/snap hard type ball that may give u a closer looking reaction.  I believe the Pain is a smoother and earlier reading ball than the Doom for medium conditions.  Or you can try the Zilla when it comes out.

I was going to make a comparison video last night, but I tripped over the mouse cord on the computer and now none of my mice will work (USB or PS2) so I cannot get into BowlersMAP to capture any videos  Can't use the keyboard to get anything to work either, though the keyboard will respond.

However, the pain for me (Same dril as Doom) is about 5 feet earlier and a few boards more hook.

Hey bud the Pain is probably the ball your looking for.  If it's anything like my dull Doom then you will love the reaction.  With it having the same core you should expect that great raw hammer hit and carry.

I was using my dull Doom almost the entire time at the BR get together.  It's actually polished with Ebonite matte polish.  I did try all the balls I had but the first 4 games I used the matte Doom the most.

I'm just starting to think that with all the success I'm having with my Doom maybe I should just go all Hammer!  I'm looking for something for medium-heavy to heavy, and the Doom is more a medium ball for me than anything less than that.  I think that has a lot to do with my low speed, though.  I'm looking at the Pain or something from the Hawg line for the wet stuff, and then possibly the purple Vibe to go under the Doom.

Ryan those three would be perfect.  That sounds like a great arsenal that would cover a lot of conditions if not all that you will see.

Med/Heavy...Hawg Wild

IMO< you could go Hawg Wild, but for more snap, then Black Widow, but it's not going to take as much oil as the H/W
