Hawg Zilla...potential flop?
« on: July 13, 2006, 06:06:02 PM »
Hello all,

Was talkin to my pro shop guys today and they went to bowl expo and got to demo the Zilla.  They say it isnt all its cracked up to be and the Widow is the real star of the new bunch.  Anyone else have this type of experience?

I have thrown both and the zilla is NOT a flop. I like it alot. I actually ended up selling the widow as it was to skid flip for me and I prefer a more controllable ball motion.

I am not sure how they could throw the ball at the demo and determine it was a flop or not a very good ball..

I think BOTH of the balls are very good.. The Pain is also a great ball and my personal favorite of the new Hammer balls..

Thanks g_thing on the split comment!!  I guess you have never seen me throw any good shots with the new stuff huh?? LOL..

I do agree that some balls don't match up well with certain styles, but that does not make the ball an overall flop or bad ball..

I really think that would be very difficult to determine how good a ball is when throwing it at a demo.  The reason I say that is the hawgzilla is asymmetrical.  Well if you don't have an asymmetrical ball drilled up for your style then your probably not going to get a good reaction out of it.  Then you also have to take into account lane conditions and what part of the lane the ball was being thrown.

My point is there are so many variables that one can't determine how good a ball is until they have used it a while on different lanes.

I will give my review on it when I pick mine up in about a month.

I did get that feeling when I demo'ed the Xcel Pearl. I thought it sucked.

Quite the contrary I hear the hawg zilla is an awesome ball and is an even better ball than the infinite one which itself is a great ball.  I guess it depends on who you talk to. My info comes from an ebonite staffer and not a hammer staffer too so go figure.

The ball hooks a ton but has poor shelf appeal.  A little too boring looking, alot of people would probaly go with the Black Widow first before the Zilla, but then come back for it when they need more hook.
