Getting a Raw Hammer Doom!
« on: August 16, 2008, 06:39:47 PM »
Hey everyone, since my recent switch back to throwing what originally worked for my game, Hammer, I just found a used, great condition Doom for me to grab.

It is used, so i'll be getting it plugged up and changing the layout to fit my arsenal, most likely.

Right now, all my arsenal consists of is my Lane #1 XXXL, Blue Vibe drilled Rico, Emerald Vibe drilled 5.5" pin above the fingers, and my Code drilled 4 x 2, pin up. What would be a good layout for the Doom, so it doesn't do something close to the Emerald? I'd like to use the Doom as it was intended to be, a hard skid/flipper.

Any suggestions?

Personally, if I were you I wouldnt buy this ball mentioned. Why buy a used ball and then plug it and redrill it, especially since you can get a new one on ebay for around 80 or so shipped? And yes, that may be to much still for someones pocket, so then come on here and request one with the same span, that way the ball wont need to be plugged when you get it. It may take a little time but I am sure someone will fix you up with the perfect ball that you are looking for. I dont know about plugging costs in your area but most people charge anywhere from 30-60 dollars to plug and redrill a ball... So if you paid say 30 bucks for the ball, that could be 90 bucks in that used ball before its said and done. With the oil absorption rates with todays balls, I wouldnt even try buying one knowing I had to plug it and redrill it.

You should come on here and say for example... I am looking for a Anger with a span of 4 1/2" and maybe a layout with a pin over the ring. Theres so many people on here that you may find one identical to that spec. I hope this helps in your decision, John

I don't agree with John at all. I have bought a number of used balls and had them plugged and re-drilled. The way I figure it is by starting at what the ball costs retail from most drillers. I just bought a used Momentum. From Buddies (where I buy my stuff)it would cost $207.95. I will get this ball (only 10 games on it) redrilled by them and at my door for a total of $116.00. I now have a great ball for $91.00 less. Go ahead and get the Doom. If the ball isn't worn out and you save money, why wouldn't you do it?

Wow, didn't think I would stir the pot like this lol.

To answer some questions and things mentioned.. I throw Sarge Easter grip, so not matter what, it will have to be plugged and redrilled. The Doom is hard to find in 14lbs on eBay. I don't know where else to find one, and this one was 35$, which is not bad at all + only one game on it. Plugging is cheap from Beans, only 40$ to plug AND redrill, so it's all good.

My Rising and Stike Machine are just sitting on my floor. They make me bored lol.
