I went to go practice today. I bowled 6 games. I was throwing my Doom, BW and Action. I threw my Doom most out of the three. I averaged probably around 180-185. Each game I must have had at least 4 or 5 ten pins. If I didn't leave ten pins I probably would have averaged about at least a 220 today. I have never seen so many ringing and flat 10's in my life. I'm going to go crazy with these stupid 10's. Maybe I'll just bring a gun to the bowling alley next time and just shoot at the tens.

Its called adjusting and making hand position changes.

Were they ringing or flat??
You should be able to move accordingly off of both.

When you keep getting 10 pins you need to adjust the angle your coming in at.

It was both ringing and flat. I was moving around but it was like no matter where it hit the pocket there would always be that darn 10 pin, even high flush there was 1 or 2 ten pin leaves. Maybe the rack set the pins kinda weird?

I hardly leave 10 pins because I am really good at reading my ball reaction before getting a chance to leave one. I usually leave something else that I shouldnt. I know last night I left more of a fair share of splits and 10 pins alone, but the head pin was offspot by a good 3 inches so everytime I threw my ball I had to make sure I came in high or I wasnt getting a strike.

I guess it was just one of those days with ten pins.

I left ten last week, only made 4, turning a mid 600 series into a 591. OH well. It happens. Sometimes it's just the bowling gods getting back at you. However, if you get away with taking the gun and using it on ten pins, let me know. I'd try it then. :-)
AS is....I wish you could call on a dedicated spare shooter....have a lefty for 10 pins and a righty for sevens.

Ringing 10s are tougher to adjust for, but flat 10s are your fault, no doubt about it. The ball was coming in and hitting like a wet fart, which means it could have been rolled in too much oil, too little oil, too much of an angle, etc etc. Ringing 10s can be helped with much smaller adjustments, but generally if you leave a 10, its probably your fault. Don't expect a strike every time it hits the pocket.

I'm not saying that I expect a strike everytime, if I did expect a strike everytime, I would have had a lot of 300's by now.

Keep it simple and step a board right on the approach. That is what I always do no matter what kind of ten pin it is. It usually works for me. But that is just me and my opinion it probably isn't worth much. lol

I know how you feel. I bowled in the local king of the hill tournament yesterday, and in the 3 games of qualifying I left no less than 18(most likely more) 7 pins(lefty). Had a lot of head pin messengers miss! Normally carry isn't a problem for me, but I threw the ball great, missed the flush pocket 2x and only had +38 to show for it! I tried everything I could think of, hand positions to start, then moves with my feet, then target, then both, then speed, then ball change. It just wouldn't fall... Granted I did qualify 2nd so I think most people had a problem as well lol. I think there are just some days you cant get that corner out, no matter what you do... I was throwin my black widow for 2 games, and my fury for one of them, just for refrence.

You can prevent this from happening by accepting the 10 pins you leave standing at practice and make sure you get better. In golf, "drive for show, putt for dough." In bowling, "Strike for show, SPARE for dough." This does not seem as obvious on house patterns, but bowl a PBA or Sport League and when you need a spare for 230 to win a jackpot, then you will see what I mean. When was the last time someone was able to win a jackpot at a house league with 230? 'Nuff said.

I've always considered myself a good spare shooter but when it came to 10 pins I would go in cycles. For a month or so I couldn't miss one if I tried and then another month I'd be missing 'em like crazy. I just went through one of these phases where I missed 5-10 pins in one league session and a couple more the next night in another league. Solution: I plugged up a Blue Dot I had laying around and drilled it conventional. Since then I've missed one ten pin (out of about 20). The ball comes off the fingers and hand simultaneously and as long as I keep my arm and elbow straight in line with the target it's bye-bye 10 pin!

i avrg about 3-4 7 pins a game usualy even though i move around.probaly becuz i spin the ball

Wallshot,
Isnt our sport strange like that. Sounds like you took the same mentality as a golfer does with their putting. Cross handed grip, conventional, long putter, the list goes on and on.
Glad to hear you have worked out the bug!

I am going through that stage right now too. I was having problems with ten pins for about 2 or 3 weeks where I only made about 2 out of 10. I used to aim for the arrows when I threw at the 10 pins but I recently changed to just looking at the 10 pin when I throw and eversince then I am probably like somewhere around 20-25 out of 30. I know that's not too good but when I first started doing that I was like 9 for 10 with ten pins, but last week in my league I had a problem and missed a few. I don't know what it is, it's like for one month I'll be dead on with ten pins, but then the next month I'll miss like 3 out of 5 each week. It's weird.

I have studied with the great all knowing Mushtare, I am now able to adjust to 10 pins before they occur, I can sense the aura of the 10 and adjust for it during my swing, and I can now type without using a period
