Control Drilling on a Brawl or Grind?
« on: November 11, 2010, 02:41:57 PM »
Any idea how either of these balls would act if drilled something like 70 x 2 x 30?

I am looking for a ball to get down the lane but not turn sideways as the lanes dry out. Right now I have been relegated to throwing my XXXL because both of my Backlashes and my Tropical Heat Hybrid are drilled pin up and are too strong on the backend.

Any ideas? WOuld a MIdnite VIbe be a better choice with this drilling?

Those Hardcore balls are pretty aggressive.  Hell, the brawl has the previous widow cover on it ( i think it's the sting)  Unless you're buzz lightyear on the speed rating or have NO hand, a 3 1/2 pin-pap drilling will outhook every ball you just said, "hooked to much on the backend".  Those 2" drillings roll good, but it's got to be the PERFECT ball or itll roll out.  You might want to look in the track line for something with a  more pronounced MB and use that to tune the reaction.  GOOD LUCK.

Doug - The Grind & Brawl are already control rolling balls. The difference between the 2 are the Brawl has the Sting cover which is a strong coverstock than the Grind which features the original BW cover.

I have thrown both balls and love them both since I have a higher rev rate and need control when bowling on the pattern shots. I have 3 Grinds (just ordered 2 more since I love this ball that much) and have 2 Brawls. These balls will not get you in too much trouble as they are smooth off the spot (end of the pattern). The Brawl is about 2-3 feet sooner and more continous in the backends than the Grind.

I did do an experiment on the Grind & Brawl with the same layout (pin below bridge w/ CG kicked out 1" from midline) which is a control layout for me (5" x 4" layout). I took the Grind to the same cover as the Brawl (2000 Abralon) and still saw the Brawl being stronger in the midlane than the Grind. So I then polished up the Grind back to FF settings (1000 w/ FF polish) now I have a 1-2 combo when the Brawl starts to burn out or too strong, I switch to the Grind and I can play the same part of the lane longer.

The great thing that I love about the Brawl is the ability for this ball to turn the corner when playing deeper in the lane. I think both balls are great pieces and fit great for the Hammer line. The Brawl is between the Plague & Grind and fills the void that was there. I hope this helps & let me know if you have any further questions.
