I want to cry
« on: May 01, 2008, 12:35:20 PM »
I know it was only practice. Shot 298 with my Black Widow Solid. Kinda upset about it. I don't think I would have cared if I have thrown a 300 before, but I have never threw one. Came up for the 12th shot. I set myself up. Ball felt really good off of my hand. Got half way down the lane and thought to myself: "that's slow!" Went thru the nose and left a 3-10. Still upset about it eventhough it was practice. I'm starting to feel like I'm never going to get it. Never thought I'd get so upset throwing a 298.

I know exactly how you feel.

In December (also just practice) I had the first 11, and the last shot was not off target, but knowing I was excited, I tried to make sure I didn't overthrow it with too much speed. In the process I rolled it just a shade slower and ended up on the Brooklyn side and left 2 pins.  Not sure if it was the 9-10 or 3-6.

Like you... I have never had a 300 (been bowling for over 40 years, too), so it was a horrible disappointment to me. Then.... believe it or not...did the same thing again----including the slightly too slow last shot----9 days later.

Have not seen that side of 290 since, but.... the last couple of weeks I have thrown 4 games of 280 or better, and the shots that were not strikes in those games were NOT bad shots at all, so I feel good about those games. You will do the same too.  You just need some time to get over the initial disappointment.

I know we both have a 300 coming for us soon.  Hang in there!!!!

I'm telling you...over-compensating for the anticipated nerves is probably the most common mistake I see...and make. I've done that several times myself, and seen MANY others do it.

Just think about it this way..you just had 11 in a row...you can throw one more. No problem. The 12th in reality...should be the easiest! Do your best not to think about that last shot as the last shot in a perfect game, but more as...just another strike. The less stress the better.

Good luck!

Matt

Getting soft on the last ball is extremely common. It cost me one is league and cost a friend one in city tournament.

I also feel like I'm never going to shoot one.  This year alone, I have 12 games of 277 or better.  I also rolled my first 800 last monday, but still, no 300

Agreed I would rather have an 800 with no 300 because that means even if I didn't carry I still made a spare and threw good shots.

I had the front 9 recently, and got excited tugged the life out of the ball and couldn't even hit brooklyn. I figured I was doomed anyways because this girl said "what are you doing trying to shoot 300" lol! 7 count / X on the fill ball, best 277 you ever seen. lol!!!! :-)

i always tell myself, dont baby the shots, and thats exactly what u have done.

some ppl likes to overthrow it and it normally goes light, but since i cant throw faster, i normally throw it slower for a garanted shot, and thats when all the bad shots come in

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

If you have the front 9 and miss the head pin, you're a putz.  If you have the front 10 and throw a 1 count, you're a numb nutz.

If you throw the front 11 and follow it with a gutter ball, you should quit bowling.

Sadly, I've seen all three.

The best part of shooting 298 in practice, is that you wasted your money.  Instead of utilizing your practice time, you spent all your money on throwing one shot per frame...congrats.  The 2nd best part...if you ever have the front 11 in league..you can think back to the time when you shot 298 in practice and throw it even worse in league for a 292..or...you can learn from it...and not make the same mistake..and shoot 299 because you grabbbed the piss out of the ball on the bottom...either way

One thing to do when you are practicing is after throwing a few strikes in a row, pretend in your mind that you have 11x and about to throw the 12th...its good practice mentally

Don't worry about it at all. the first 300 i shot was during the summer time in a non sanctioned league, the summer before my first year in mens league. I went the entire year just down on myself because I felt that i couldnt repeat it. 4 weeks before league was done for the season i shot 300 my first game of the night, high on pills cause i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out that day and didnt want to miss league lol.

Since then the last 4 years i have shot 9 sanctioned 300's in 6 different houses, and 3 800's in 2 different houses. Not to mention the 3 other non sanctioned 300's iv shot in local tournaments.

once you take it off a pedestal its much easier. you shot 298 once u can easily get there again.

GOOD LUCK !!!

I've had about 3 279s, one 280, two 290s, and one 300.  My 280 and one of those 290s were both in a league(completely different times).  I rarely get any high games like that.  250s and 260s are hard enough to come by, even 240s.  I haven't shot 800 either.  That'll be my next big accomplishment whether it's in league or not.
