If I drilled a Black Widow and a Black Widow pearl, ??

Both with the same layout, will I see enough difference in length and back end to make it worth while? Both in OOB.

BWP is 2 to 3 feet longer.

I have a BW and BWP same layout #1 pin above bridge just pin is a little higher on the BWP. I have both at 2000 but there is enough differnce in the balls reaction. BWP clears heads very easily and goes 2-4 ft longer then the BW and is stronger on the backend. BW is stronger in the mids and less on the backend. The 2 Black Widow's are a deadly Combo.

c-hop, quick questions:

are you saying that you've taken the pearl off the BWP?  So, in essence, they are both a "solid" ball? and the "solid pearl" is still longer than the original BW?

well i took it down to 2000 then added polish. Its not as shiny as OOB but still a pearl. For me the OOB surface on both BW's is just jumpy both balls IMO read the lanes very well at 2000

Thank you for the replies.  Buddies Pro Shop is sending me two more BWs and a BWP.  I drilled a BWP and BW for my Son and he has been bowling extremely well with the BW but I believe the pin is too high on the BWP.  I'll probably plug and re-drill his BWP drill him a stronger BW similar to the BW I just drilled for myself and drill me a BWP the same as my BW.

Nicanor,

I would lightly use a scuff pad to knock some of the polish off the BWP before you plug and redrill. These covers respond well to surface changes.

The pin is about 2 2 1/2 inches above the ring finger, but I will try and remove some polish first.

I am in a similar situation.  I also have a BWP which has a layout, where the pin is high (around 2" above the ring finger).  This caused it to lope in the midlane and then it was somewhat uncontrollable at the breakpoint.  

I recently took it down to just 4000 abralon, just basically removing the polish, and it has made a big difference.  I think 2000 abralon would be even better.  I keep my BW at 2000 abralon and it is great.

If I had it to do over again, I would drill the BWP with the pin lower.  On my BW I drilled out the pin, in the ring finger, and it is great.  I would probably do the same on the BWP, if I had another one.

I think using the same layout on all your equipment is a great approach to building a main arsenal.  Just let the cover and cores separate the reactions.

I have two ANGER's drilled exactly the same but one has the cover at 2000 grit and the other is polished.  The polished ball is about 7 boards weaker than the dull one.  Same ball, same layout but different cover grits and theirs a big difference in the reaction strength.  Best two ball combo i've used.

For the most part, yes. If the backends are very clean and super crisp, and the pattern is short enough to help it recover then the pearl is great. Other than that the solid out hooks it in the back. Mostly because the solid recovers from the oil much better and reads the lane alot sooner. Even at 2000, the pearl just wants to squirt in the oil and is very sensitive to it. But it is much better than OOB 4000 polished
