Black Widow--OK, I'm a believer!
« on: December 18, 2006, 01:12:56 PM »
OK, I've read they hype for quite some time, but I was reluctant to bite. After all, why did I need a Black Widow? I had The One. Well, at long last I decided to trade The One away, which was not easy for me considering that was my 300 ball. Anyhow, since The One was headed out the door, I decided to cave in and let me driller punch me a Widow.

I had the ball drilled pin beneath ring, cg kicked slightly right, lmb at about 30 degrees right of the thumb, box finish. I threw the ball about 7-8 frames before league started. From the very first shot, I knew that this ball was unlike any that I had ever thrown. It was simply violent. The ball would push just past the mid before digging in and screaming back in the hardest, yet smoothest arc that I had ever encountered. Once it got to the pins, lights out baby. Well, since I liked the look in practice, I decided to use it in league, which I normally don't do with a new ball.

Game 1-- X X X X X X X X 9/ X X X = 279  Damn ringing, and I mean ringing 10
Game 2-- X X X X X X X 81 X 9/X = 246 (6-7 split in eighth) 4-pin in 10th
Game 3-- X X X X X 9/ X X X X X X = 279  Nasty 4-pin, thought it would go

31 out of 36 strikes--279-246-279 = 804  My first 800!

I've read countless tales of people going 300-800 the first night out of the box with a new ball, and I've always wondered how. Well, the Black Widow gave me that answer. Don't get me wrong; I know I can shoot numbers with any ball, but this one sure made life easy. It's a shame that both of my leagues take two weeks off for the holidays. I want to get back out there and bowl tomorrow!
There are many good balls to be thrown out there, but if you want raw, smooth, nasty power, pick yourself up a Widow. You won't be disappointed!

Nice shooting man. I just got one today and after getting a new properly fit ball and adjusting to the new feel I really saw the extreme power the ball has. I Didn't ahve the scoring on and I really could careless what I shot, it reacted the same on every shot I did my part (rolled it decent). I was soaking up oil like a sponge though and flared a ton, well thats all.

Great shooting bud!

The Widow gives a unique reaction un-like any ball I have seen.  It's has what I call a "bannana arc" reaction.  It's kind of a cross between an arc and flip.  This is a very good ball to use when your caught in that transition and are leaving single pins with your other equipment.  It has the different angle to the pocket that can get that single pin down.

Keep us posted on how it works for you.

Awesome Gene, great set!  Congrats!  I was iffy on the Widow at first, but then I saw what it could do, even in my hands.  This ball is flat out sick sometimes.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Way to go, Gene !!!

 Too bad that your first "8" couldn't have been with a "3" too; I know how ya feel ... I have a 299 (10 pin) and a 290 (4 pin) that cost me a 300.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Yeah, it would've been great to card 300 No. 2 or even 3, but in some ways I'm even more satisfied that I got to 800 the way that I did. I always kind of thought that I would have to shoot the 290-300 last game in order to put me over, but I didn't. Even when I wrapped that 4-pin, I knew that I could still get there if I flushed the next five, and I managed to do it. In some ways, that makes it even more gratifying.

In any case, let me just say again that the Black Widow is simply sick. This ball provides more raw power than any ball that I've ever thrown, and I've thrown in excess of 125 balls in the last 5 years! If you're looking for a ball that is just itching to go nuts for you, the Black Widow is the ball. I'm already looking forwrd to the release of the pearl!

Gene, great results. The Widow is an amazing ball!

I purchased my Widow in August and it fit right into my game. Mine is a 3" pin, located just right of the ring, MB 1" right of thumb, with the CG out of line to the left, no X hole.  It goes extra long before recovering. If the lane has lots of midlane, the ball is a total beast.

A few weeks ago I started a set by missing a bucket, then threw 22 of the next 23 strikes (one ringing 10 pin) for 278 & 279. Unfortunately, I choked away the 800 series.

I just purchased a 2nd Widow. It's laid out a bit more aggressive, and I've changed the surface to be under 1000 grit. Only used it once and it also was a beast!

Great shooting Gene.

Mine works on certain conditions. The ball has
good length with a nice backend when there is friction.

I am thinking of getting another one and drilling it with an earlier
layout.

Well I have begged my mom to get me one for either x-mas or my birthday which is only 4 days after x-mas. I will scream if I don't get one.
