Title: In need of heavy oil ball
Post by: Low Revs on March 13, 2014, 04:39:46 PM
State tourney coming up soon, and i want to be prepared. The 3 strongest balls that I have currently are the Deadly Aim, Ratchet, and Wrench.

I have been looking at the Brunswick Mastermind, but id really like to keep my arsenal all Hammer.

I have seen some good reviews on the Absolut Hook, but I already have an Absolute Curve pin down and its an absolut(e) dud for me.

I really dont want to do anything to the surface to the Deadly Aim, because out of the box its perfect for me.

Any suggestions within the Hammer lineup for a super strong oiler?

Maybe another Deadly Aim with a more aggressive surface?

I would go with the Mastermind or the Hyper Cell.  Either one of those will handle the flood with no problems.

If you like Hammer, why not just broaden your scope to Columbia and Ebonite?

You might want to look at an Enigma or Pivot.

Pivot is a flat out beast
highly under-rated piece

If you could find a First Blood, that would be a good choice. Or maybe an Amp with a strong layout..

the pivot is what you want and its in the EBO family

Maybe another Deadly Aim with a more aggressive surface?

I was thinking either this with more surface, or a Cold Blood with more surface, though I don't know how dulling up a pearl coverstock will benefit.

I'm looking at getting both a Pivot and Deadly Aim, with balling down to a Cold Blood (which should be roughly on par with a Pivot Point). I'll see how they both fare when they come in.

BL.

pivot is a good heavy oil ball but the mastermind is like nothing else a true beast

From everything I've seen, I'd say the Mastermind is the best ball out for higher volumes.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Due to input I got here, and the props it got here, I decided to order a Mastermind. It seems to be unanimously one of the strongest, if not the strongest oiler out there.

I also decided to get another Deadly Aim, so im gonna experiment with the surface on 1, while keeping the factory finish on the other since its unbelievable out of the box.

Good choice.  Even though I'm a Storm/Roto Grip guy, I have to give Brunswick props on their lineup the last few years.  The Mastermind is one of the top heavy oil balls out there right now.  Having seen one of my teammates throw it, I'd even consider getting one.
