Is the Hammer Taboo something special?
« on: June 06, 2011, 03:33:20 AM »
I don't have a Taboo but seeing the damage it is doing in this area is making me want to get one.  I don't usually buy into ball hype but it is hard not to from what I have seen with the Taboo.  Is there something different or special about this ball or is it just a Black Widow rehash?  There have been other gas mask cored balls since the first Widow and the Pearl Widow but I don't recall them being as popular.  I have seen the Taboo get people their first 300 and first 800 within a week after getting it.  It is making 190 bowlers into 220 plus.

What's the deal with the Taboo..?  What makes it so special?

i prefer the infection myself seems to have more snap than the taboo. the lane 1 Gemstone is a monster that is flying under the radar, that piece is the best ball around in my humble opinion

I actually liked the motion of the swagga better as well.. from what I saw.. but the swagga had a short lived life around here.

For every 10 that love this ball there's probably a couple that didn't.  I'm one of the 190 bowlers that it certainly helped cash in a couple tournaments.  However, i just never fell in love w/ it totally and have since sold mine.  It just didn't seem to allow me to miss right like some other balls that I was carrying.

Great ball, but it just didn't give me the recovery I expected for a ball so well hyped and in the $200+ range

There's always an individual matchup with a ball that makes a difference.  IMO this is the closest ball with the original BW ball motion, except stronger.  For me personally, it carries the 10 pin like no other ball I have ever had, which helps with my lack of hand and up-the-back release.  Flat 10s with another ball are strikes with the Taboo.

I agree with the previous poster about the lack of recovery - if you're looking for something to give you 10 boards of room on a house shot, this isn't it.  But I've shot a 744 on Scorpion with it (previous high in 4 yrs. of my PBA Experience league was a 646), so I'm obviously one of the bowlers that loves the ball.

Hammer Taboo, it's a nice ball, it rolls like my Ebonite Total NV, smooth roll to the pocket.

for me it does not snap at the backend, Very predictable, I use it to go on a straighter line I like to use it on dryer lane conditions.

Not as strong as my 8 year old "Yeah Baby" the best ball in my bag. This ball is my second choice.

Stats:  Stroker bowler 14-15 mph

Between the Swagga and the Taboo I had 5 800 series in a row, with a strong 780 the 6th time I used this these balls. The taboo is very controlable down lane. Not snappy, but very continuous which is what you want in a ball on todays skid/flip type conditions. The Swagga just goes a pinch longer. The Infection to me is more midlane than the Taboo with the same smooth controlable backend. Until the some of the new stuff starts to hit the best three ball bag you could have is a Taboo, Brawl, Midnight Vibe.
