Burgundy Pure Hammer Coverstock

Does anyone remember the coverstock of this ball? Was it pure urethane, tame reactive, or some kind of hybrid? Also, what does BTM mean when they say a coverstock is hybrid? I've been away and am getting back in touch.

 The Burgandy Pure Hammer had a mild reactive coverstock on that ball (weaker than today's version). It was smooth with a little pop in the backends. Your best bet for a urethane ball would be the new Blue Hammer that was released last year. This ball is a great rolling ball with a Vibe modified core in it.

Hybrid = pearlized cover mixed wih a solid coverstock... Giving you he best of both worlds (great midlane motion with a backend finish). Some Hybrid balls have more pearl than solid & some have more solid than pearl.  Hope this helps you out wih your questions.

FWIW I agree with Plowboy.
 
The Burgundy  Pure Hammer was supposed to be resin that emulated a urethane-like reaction. While it was polished, it had a pretty good backend, not urethane-like at all. I used it for medium-light to medium oil. Sanded it may have been more urethane-like.
 
Hybrids can be any mix of 2 different types of coverstocks, but normally when manufacturers use this word, they refer to the colors, being pearl or solid. Many are 50/50 (1:1 ratio, with one color pearl and one color solid) but some are 67/33  (2:1 ratio) and some are 75/25 (3:1 ratio,especially some Hammers). 
 
Storm at one time had a ball that was 50/50 resin/particle.
Lanemasters recently has made a bunch of 50/50 pearl/solid particle balls.

Yes, the burgundy PH was a pure reactive piece. Its predecessor, the black PH, had a "Urethane reactive blend" as a cover, also very smooth and even, but still by far much mor etrcation than a typical urethane piece like the Faball Hammers.

 

Not certain if this qualifies as a "hybrid", under that term, normally pearl/sold blends are covered.

I just got back on here for the first time since I posted this topic, so I apologize for my delay in responding.  Thank you to all who responded.  Your replies contained just the kind of info I was looking for.  I have had extremely good luck using urethane balls where I bowl now, and I spotted the Burgundy Pure Hammer among the cache of balls I brought with me when I moved and wondered if it might be worth a shot here. 
 
I haven't been on this site much for several years and I see that a number of things have changed--mostly cosmetic it seems.  One odd thing though...my list of notifications of people who responded to this post included J.Max, Yuzon, and Yana; and yet I cannot find those responses.  I did get the others.  Do posts "age out" now?  I also can't find more than one page worth of Hammer posts in the Hammer forum.

They might be among those whose userids were deleted by the administrators for abusing the system. That's one of the only reasons I can think of for their replies not being here any longer. One or more might have deleted their own reply for personal reasons.

I gave my son a Burgundy Red Pure hammer.  There was a micommunication on the drilling with his and my friend his driller.

 

Put on it was a 2 X 2 drilling on this already tame reactive coverstock.  My big handed two handing son has some hook on it but with 550 rpms and about 20 miles an hour it is just too smooth.  Usually not enough pop for his high speed delivery on any medium leagues.

 

I have seen the ball from a big  handed standard one handed righty and the ball was great at a highly jumpy local anvilane house.  This bowler with about 380 to 400 rpms and 16 mph at the pins and tore up this shot with the Burgundy Red.  Many a 720 to 760 did I see him throw.

 

I wish I had one.  I would drill it very standard. 

 

If there was scale to rate it's reactivity on the AMF scale I would guess about 25 to 30.

I have wanted one of these for awhile, but haven't been able to find a good one.  In the mean time, I picked up a NIB Faball Norm Duke Hammer on eBay last year and am so glad I bought it! It doesn't have that original Faball grenade core, but it has a lightbulb core and a very weak cover (Hammerthane).  This ball is a secret weapon, as I can move far right and pipe it right down the twig when all the crankers are stuck lofting balls over the guttercaps.  I think weak reactive pieces are underrated.
