Taming the Cherry Vibe

Like many others, I was surprised at how strong my Cherry Vibe is.  Although I bought the ball for light oil, it matches up better on mediums.  The ball snaps very hard when it encounters friction.  As the lanes dry up, I can move to a deeper line, but my T-Road Pearl is equally effective.  So I have a great ball sitting in the closet.

The ball has the "Low RG Layout" on the drill sheet:  early hook with a smooth arc and low flare potential.  I am a medium speed/revs stroker, and this is a good fit for me on the medium.  In retrospect, the "Length Layout" would be better for light oil.

Right now the ball's cover is OOB (4000+polish), and it still snaps hard on the backend.  I'm wondering if there are surface adjustments I can make to mellow this ball out more for light oil?  Maybe take the polish off?  I'd prefer to avoid redrilling it.

I have an Emerald Vibe and have seen/drilled some Cherry Vibes. The Cherry is a little earlier than the Emerald, reads the mids more and is not as angular as the Emerald. What I did was to take the emerald to 1000 and put a light coat of polish on the ball. The result was an outstanding pearl that reads the mids and makes a very hard move in the backend. I would suggest playing with the surface prep to tune the Cherry. I would not hesitate to try what I suggested above if you feel the reaction is a bit uncontrollable. BTW, the Onyx Vibe is the perfect combination of the Emerald and Cherry if you want to go that route.

IMO the OOB surface prep is very tacky and tends to grab the lane typically earier than desired.  Plus with you putting a "low rg layout" you are causing the ball to rev up quicker.  I'd suggest just redoing the box finish by hand starting at 360 and working your way up to 4000, then lean on it a bit with polish.  This should help to give you the dry lane look you are looking for, it has for me.
