Just drilled up my Blue Vibe.

Hi Hammerheads! Well, I just drilled up my newest Hammer ball, the Blue Vibe.

I decided to drill it with the Rico layout, everyone here knows what that is. When Beans drilled it and weighed it out, he said it didn't really need a weight hole, but we can put one in it. We ended up not putting one in it, because maybe it will roll just fine without one, ya never know (we can also just add one, if needed).

So I took it to the lanes to get a game or two on it, and, first off, the lanes were absolute junk. I know there was a league bowling on them earlier, and house ball bowlers, and another guy, so they were pretty used up. I was kind of mad about that, but what can ya do. The Blue Vibe wasn't that easy to get through the heads (no ball was), but it did it, with speed. It revved up REALLY hard on the lane, though. Is that due to the core? Then just made a hard, controllable, gradual move off the spot. I really LOVED the roll and reaction shape this ball gave me, even if the lanes were junk. There's only about 2 games on it now, and i'm already dying for more. I'll post a pic of the layout soon!

If you don't have this ball, you're missing out. Even if you already have a ball similar to this in your arseanl, i'd say get a Blue Vibe before they're all gone!

Yeah, I'm thinking about maybe getting another Blue Vibe to have at 1000 or 2000 Abralon for heavy oil, it is just that good of a ball.

RICO layout with no weight hole.  You must of had a low starting top weight?  

It's hard to gauge a ball on toasted lanes.  Wait until you get it on some oil.  On a longer/ heavier pattern the ball made slide too long.  Don't be afraid to adjust the cover on this ball.

chitown, you're right. I hate to say how a ball reacts on junky lanes, but it's just the motion shape and the way it revved up that REALLY caught my eye.

Also, I do understand the main thing with Rico is one of the most important parts, but since it didn't need a hole (started with 2.25oz top weight), I just felt like trying it without the hole.

Okay, so we'll call this layout: Pin in palm, CG at 45 degrees. Lol.

Brian,

The hole is not the "most important" thing, of course. The most important thing is always the pin position. In any case, the hole adds a degree of asymmetry and adds to the flare making the ball react earlier and smoother, as a sort of reinforcement to the pin position. It is important in order to get the full benefits of the drilling.

By all means, see if you like the drilling as it is. The important thing with the hole is not how much weight is removed but what sized chunk is removed from the core to affect the dynamics.

I might also add,owning a ball that works well on "junk" lanes is golden.

I've been throwing my blue vibe drilled rico for the last year and it is in the top 3 balls I have owned...and thats been alot!!!

This ball with that layout and 1000 grit + a light coat of beans sauce is the perfect matchup for me on most all conditions I see. I bought another NIB when they said it was gonna be discontinued.

charlest, I know the pin is the most important thing here, but I was talking about my layout choice. It was supposed to be Rico, but I don't think the layout is "Rico" without the hole, really. So that's why I said the weight hole was the most important part to this layout, although I don't have one.

I'll be testing it out again today, on fresh lanes.. So we'll see how it goes.
