Kitty Litter Oil Remover

has anyone else heard about covering a ball in kitty litter (in a bucket) for a few days to absorb oil out of a ball?

also, once a reactive ball has been polished (say 2000 grit unpolished OOB), does the polish clog up the pores in the coverstock and damage the reaction of the ball if it is taken back to a sanded finish?

do you do this just like you would the "hook again" pretty much surround the ball and let sit for 24 hours?

Let it sit longer. Like a week. 5 gallon pail and surround it with the kitty litter. The longer it sits, the more it will absorb. It can't harm the ball. I've also heard of people using speedy dry. That stuff is specifically made to absorb oil.

I use Abzorbit, it's a very fine powder and works like a champ. Takes 2-3 hours tops for me.

Hot water baths are cheaper and quicker.  I'm sure this works too if you don't mind waiting days at a time.

Abzorbit I get from Lowes, don't remember what it cost but I think it was about $10.00 for a 1.2 cu ft bag ( looks about the size of a 10 lb bag of dirt).

I'd suggest you get the smaller bottle, about $5-6 and you won't use that much. I do customers' balls as well as my wife's and mine after every set so I use more.

I use a plactic cup full in a trash bag.

No water, that would ruin it. You allow the Abzorbit to take out the oil, just let it set in it , turn the ball every 20-30 minutes until you think it's done. I turn the ball every 20-30 min for 2-3 hours, longer if the oil was heavier.

I have cut up an old rag, stick them in the finger/thumb holes and turn the ball. What I like about it is I can do other things as the stuff works on the oil. Couple times it's been 6 hours befor I took the ball out, I got busy and didn't get back to it, never hurt any ball.

It's a fine , VERY fine powder so I'd suggest something over your mouth/nose so you don't breath it in.  I'll reuse the bag and material for 3-4 balls, feel of it and maybe one or two more balls or toss it out. Trash bags usually last 3-4 balls then start to get a small hole from the ball cup.

I have never seen any color change. It's white, stayed white even when I tested it on water with vegie oil mixed in it. I wanted to see what it looked like when water was put on it. It just lumped up to absorb the water, so as far as I can say, it works, at least it does for me.

As I have said, I do turn the ball every 20-30 min, and I keep the ball in the bag for 2-3 hours. Left one once 8 hours, I just forgot to get it out and got busy, didn't hurt the ball at all (it was my wife's GameBreaker)and as much as she's an Ebonite freak, if it'd had hurt the ball, she'd let me know !
