I tend to feel that the bowling balls of today don't need to be drilled really strong.
There are many ways to drill up an arsenal. I used to just drill everything the same and let the cover and cores separate the reactions. I feel this is a good approach for ones main arsenal. Then add one specialty ball and layout and be good to go.
Another approach is to just choose one PIN position and use that for each ball in your arsenal. Just change the location of the MB's and or CG's, with and without balance holes, to give yourself different reaction shapes.
Then there's the common approach which is to drill each ball completely different (different pin, cg and MB locations).
I tend to use the same pin position on most of my equipment. I do have a couple specialty balls that are drilled different.
To answer your question: Just make sure the pin location is not too strong and you should get a good reaction. If you drill the ball with the pin in a really strong position it's going to flare a lot and early which may make it puke on the back end.
