Soaking ball update

Well. I'm a believer.  Thanks to all who said "do it"
Last night we had a tighter shot again as evidenced by several guys coming up lite or not even getting to the pocket with several shots.  Most had to be playing tighter at 2nd arrow.  I didn't do a complete soak out but ended up having time to do it 5 times and was still getting plenty of oil out of the ball.  At that, I could get back left at about 40 and throw 17. With the oil volume, if I really goosed it it would bump out to 8 at the break but still come back to the hole.  Tried to keep it inside of 10 at the break for the most.  No big score as the first game alone I left the entire back row as well as a 4-10 for a 201.  Finished up with 221 and 247 as I got more used to being able to wheel it again and not worry about it hanging out on me.  Still entend to finish this up and do the orange softscrub final cleaning this weekend.  Next week I'll have my Total NV as my big ball for oil and the Widow will be the next one down. Still my main ball for house shots and now I know what works to get the oil out of the shell.  The rest of the team noticed the difference as well as I was getting the ball to the hole again from places they couldn't.  Anyone else with problems with their Widows loosing their punch or any other absorbing balls try this.

Do a quick search of the site for coverstock prep using the words "hot water bath" or "soaking".  It's been talked about quite a bit in the past few months.  It's not rocket science, by any means.  Good luck!

Question:  How long does it take for everything to dry out good...ball and inserts?

I was thinking of doing this tonight with my Doom, but wanted to make sure the ball would be good to go by the time league starts tomorrow night at 9:30.

Doesn't take long at all.  My last soak was at about 5:15 by the time I pulled it out of the hot water and wiped it down.  Threw it in the bag and headed to Green bay to bowl at 7:00.  Doesn't actually absorb water so once you dry it off it seems good to go.  I did leave the thumb hole straight up so it didn't get wet knowing this.  It's slugged so I'm guessing it would have dried out right away as well.  It isn't supposed to matter if you submerse it or not.

If you sunk the entire ball which is OK to do the finger and thumb insert should dry over night without any problems.  After using a towle to dry the ball just set it so the holes face the ground.  This will allow any left over water to come out.

To me this is the best approach at getting the oil out of the ball without causing damage to the coverstock.

Well, it's in the bucket as I type.  I went ahead and put some tape over the holes, just for safe measure.  Hopefully it won't leave too much "tacky" stuff on the ball to scrub off.

Trust me bud you don't have to worry about getting water in the holes.  It's not going to ruine the ball.  When your done just dry it with a towel.  You could stuff the corner of the towel in the thumb hole to dry it some.  The just point the holes down and it will air dry.

Is getting the ball rejuvenated the same or more effective way of getting oil out? is it safer to do the soak?

I don't know much about the rejuvenator.  I do know that soaking the ball in hot water is a very effective way of extracting oil from the coverstock.  I also know it's very safe and wont ruin the ball.

I have read many times of bowlers putting bowling balls in the oven.  I don't understand why one would even need to do that.  These company's also sell these oil extracting products that claim to do exactly what HOT WATER SOAKING can do.

The HOT WATER SOAKING method is very effective and inexpensive.
