Author Topic: Pink Hammer verses VIBE (Read 2205 times)

Have a pink hammer tht recently pulled out of my gagage stock and was pleasantly surprised that on light oil it carries quite well and allows me to play almost a 10 t0 10 down and in shot. I'm older now (73) and ball speed is my main prolem..I still turn the ball at about 290-300 rpm's but ball speed is about 12mph where higher average bowlers are about 15-16 on our house scales.

THS shot is light oil, aout 40 feet and clean backends. Since my ball speed is slower I can use weaker balls. For heavier conditions I have several quantums, but slow lanes are still my biggest problem. Whats your advize on the VIBE; a comolement to my arsenal or a duplication??? Have 3 sanctioned 298 games and 7 sanctioned 700 series and I'm working hard to get my "A" game together.
Any and all sugestions appreciated.

I have both Vibes as well as the blue, pink, and burgandy urethane hammers. Either Vibe will be much more aggressive than the pink hammer. I have the pink and burgandy polished up and they work very well on dry lanes. I dont think you will have duplication issues with the Vibes, but its hard to tell if they will compliment or not.

I would think that the new Pure Hammers (Black & Burgundy) and the Blue Slate Gargoyle are the closest balls to the pink hammer... that was the LEAST hooking of all those uerethane balls.

I have a use the Burgundy Pure Hammer. It is nowhere close to a Pink Hammer. In fact, I can't use it on light oil at all; I almost need medium oil, with the stock finish. Drill is roughly 3.75" 5".

I have to believe that the Purple Vibe with Roger's rev rate and ball speed will have a HUGE backend that is almost unctrollable. Roger, I'd stick with the Pink Hammer, if I were you. It has a powerfull hitting action and a controlled hook that's worth its weight in gold. The ONLY resin ball that's anywhere close to it, in my opinion, is the Visionary Blue/Green Centaur. I have 2: one polished and one 2000 grit dull. Both are control ball also on light oil.

I agree Charlest.... but they are the closest that's out there to the pink... yep the Burg is strongest, and maybe the Blue Slate Gargoyle will be a little stong too. The Black Pure Hammer is likely the closest to the pink. Again, the Pink was a rock, even in 1988 terms!

A friend of mine used it in the last 1990s and erly 2000s on a burnt condition and did well with it.

FYI I do like the Burgundy PH, a surprisng find, when I was looking for a light oil ball. Control and better than average hitting power in a polished solid. A very mild drill plus a very fine sanding PLUS lots of polish may make it suitable for very light oil, but why ruin a perfectly good ball, UNLESS necessary.

I was in a league in 1992 (a burnt 9:30 PM trio league) and a guy threw a 300 with it! Of course, our league's other 300 that year was with an LT-51.... go figure!

Burgandy pure is a great ball. There is no resin ball that will compare to that pink hammer. Even the weakest cover resin will out react a urethane.

You might also want to consider a bit of negative weight for your dry lane ball.

I have the black PH (luckily found it on shelf in my pro shop), and it is also a very strong ball - stronger and earlier than I ever thought it would be.

It works very well on light conditions, does not burn up, is smooth as silk... but it MOVES a lot. Even with my length drilling (pin more than 1" above bridge, CG stacked) the ball will like to hook towards Brooklyn when I let down speed. A very good ball, though.

It is definitively a step up from the Slate Blue Gargoyle. When your speed si low and you are an accurate player, try to find one.

Another ball that might be worth taking a look at is Brunswick's Power Groove Dry/R. Also a very smooth and weak ball for light oil, I think it would be easier to get some length out of it than with a Pure Hammer. I'd rank it still a step above the Slate Blue Gargoyle, though.
