Hammer Burn~ Tell be about it
« on: November 01, 2009, 12:08:13 PM »
I'm thinking of getting my wife into a Hammer ball, and looking at the burn. Besides the different color of it, and looks pretty good rolling down the lane, I think it'd be a good fit for her.

She currently got a Storm Shift, Storm Attitude Shift, and Storm Rapid Fire. I'm thinking the Burn would be a great fit for her on our house shot, and just wondered how anyone else has done with it.

She throws 14#, and has decent speed, and likes to play a slight swing shot.

First of all, I currently have the Burn and it is very condition specific I will say too. I like mine but only for very small amounts of time on the lanes, and only when they are fresh at that. It is much stronger than most people anticipate. I just think they have much better choices besides the burn.

It looks like your wife has some good choices, but she may need something pearl to give her more on the backend. Something like the Hyroad or Fast maybe a good compliment to some of her balls. The Virtual Energy may be a little more rolly than the two mentioned but it is also a great ball too.

If she has her mind set on trying a Hammer ball then I would say go for the STING hands down... Quiet possibly one of the best balls ever made. But then again, if its the yellow color that she loves then just dont be affriad to change the surface. Good luck, John

It's strong, it's angular and it ignores carrydown shockingly well.

John D Davis- I would almost be afraid the Sting would be too much ball for her. I have the Sting, and throw it rarely on our house shot, unless they are playing a little slicker than normal or I move deeper. The color I'm kind of fond of for her, but it's not that big of deal though lol.

I was under the impression the Burn was a pearl? Am I wrong about that? I thought about one of the Vibes also. I've got an Emerald Vibe drilled Rico, and it's an awesome ball. I thought about the same layout for her on a Vibe too.

Decisions decisions lol.

I drilled up a Burn. Worked Ok on med conditions.  The biggest problem I had was being able to read the ball.  With the bright color and the lights deflecting on it, it was hard to see how the ball was reacting going down he lane.  Main reason I put it on the shelve.

I dont know how your wife rolls the ball, but I wouldnt go with a rico layout with a female. Due to their rev rate, it may give an undesired reaction... Now again, I cant speak for all females of course but 95% requires a better layout.

I would however go with a pin down layout if you did decide to go with a Burn or something as that. My Burn is pin up and palm over the cg. Nothing fancy but I cant predict the break point and just simply feel good in it... I currently have my Burn at 1K Abralon(by hand), and it works quiet amazing on that perfect condition.

I beg to differ though on the Sting. I know the sting is very strong, but yet on the other hand, I feel it can be tweaked to even be used on some of the driest conditions. The surface takes changes well and it is very driller friendly as well. I couldnt use mine on the dry conditions but then again I wouldnt have lacked much. I had mine pin up and at 4K Abralon. Im actually pretty sure though if you went pin down and say at least 5" (pin to pap) then it would be less overall hook than either of the two shifts she has. I am sure though you will get her in a ball and she will be very happy... Good luck, John

The Burn is a pearl and a strong one at that. She looks like she has some strong equipment already. The Cherry Vibe would be a good fit here as it is not as strong as the Burn and not as angular on the backend as the Emerald.

Surprised to see so many saying the Burn is condition specific, mine is drilled 4 1/2 pin down and is very versatile. I agree with one of the other posters that it is a very hard ball to read though.
