My BiG Deal is
« on: January 25, 2006, 05:42:36 PM »
losing it. The hook that i once know/knew and loved is starting to go bye bye. It's not coming back as hard as it used to. I don't know what to do. It used to hit hard(still does) but doesn't come back as nearly as much as it did 3 months ago. I know i have put quite a few games on it because i am a college bowler but i don't know what to do. I love it and i just wanna get it back to it's kick butt state. Although i did shoot 187 206 and some other nonsense score in league today with it and my overtime, and it was the first day of league so im kinda happy

rather than giving the ball a hot water bath, just giving the ball a small resurface job to take a layer off the ball will bring to the surface a fresh laywe of particl overstock. This will bring back some of the hook that the ball had out of box. In order to get the reaction u remember perfectly, you would have to buy a new Big Deal.

Hook again is a much better option then soaking.

I personally am not a fan of water treatments to balls, other than wet sanding.

Jason,

My coach had the hook again system and he said it was crap, it did nothing for him, and no offense to all you "One" fellows, but screw it IM OK.
Plus Ive had better results with hammer than i do ebonite(if that's possible)
I did the hot water thing with my DangerZone, and a lot of oil came out but i don't throw it anymore. So i will try the resurfacing thing, possibly. But isn't it to early for my ball to start losing hook. I've only had it since October.

October to January.
4 months.

How many games do you have on it since October?
Was it new when you got it?

I agree with Lefty if the ball has over 100 games on it, and you have never touched the cover, then I would say that it is definately overdue for a good "cut, clean, and smooth".

What I would do is this:
I would take 600 grit abralon, or paper, and using a spinner I would WET sand it, in quarters.   Then, I would take an APPROVED cleaner- not alcohol, printcleaner, or simple green-  like Powerhouse's Energizer cleaner and clean the ball with the spinner.  Lastly I would take 1000 grit ABRALON and WET sand it to a nice smooth finish.   I would quarter this step as well.

Then I would head to the lanes, with a ball that should react like new.

With this there will be no soapy residues, harsh chemicals, or nastyness that can damage a coverstock.

If you do this, let me know how it works for you.

I have a BB Pearl that I absolutely love.  It is definately my "go-to", and it has been through this proceedure many times.   Only thing is, I take it to 4000 abralon, then polish the DOO_DOO out of it!!!

Nope i haven't touched the surface, however i have to get some abralon pads. Im not sure what to do as far as wet sand. So do i add/spray water then sand the ball?

So, you have over 100 games on the balls surface, you haven't touched it, and you want it to react like it was new?

Sorry for the condesention, but this is not possible with any ball maker.

Yeah, wet sand = spraying with water, while ball is spinning on spinner, while sanding with Abralon.

Is there anyone running any kind of pro shop in the BBC these days? If not, is Pat O. still the manager?  If so, he is/was and avid bowler and knows what I am talking about.   Chat with him and see if he can help you.

Redbird Classic still on Wed nights?   If so, the bowling team is required to bowl that league, or used to be, so chat a member up and see if they can help.
