No Mercy Drilling #2

I was wondering if anyone has tried this drilling with the No Mercy and, if so, what was the reaction you got out of it.  

I had a No Mercy with the #1 drilling on it, but just never felt like it was hitting very well or rolling thru the pin deck.  It always seemed to be quitting.  My son, as well as some others I have watched, have made the ball look like magic.  I figured that maybe the #1 drill was just burning too much energy and lacked hitting power at the pins.

I am medium to slow in my speed, don't know my rev rate but it isn't a lot compared to many folks.

Just wondering.

Drilling #2 – Strong Arc

Ball Motion: Strong arcing hook motion
(about 2-4 boards less than Drilling #1)
Lane Condition: Medium Oil
Flare Potential: Medium (3-5”)
Pin Placement: Place pin at 4 – 5” from PAP
HART Placement: Place HART 2-3” right of the ball track
Weight Hole: If needed, place weight hole at approximately 4”
from grip center to get the ball legal

The #1 aggressive layout was probably burning up on you.  Drilling #2 is probably not the solution.  The solution would be to place the pin a little further from your PAP.  You can keep the HART in the aggressive location but move your pin.

A lot of bowlers that didn't have success with this ball placed the pin in too strong of a location which caused the ball to burn up, hit and react weak on the back end.

How far was the pin from your PAP on your current NM?

On the No Mercy I had the pin was placed 4" from my PAP and the heart was in the ball track as recommended.

Energy burn was my thoughts as well, that is why I thought the drilling #2 might store a little more energy but still have the strong finish I have observed with others.  It looks like on the Hammer drill sheet that there is a drill pattern which moves the pin above the fingers and keeps the heart in the track, but it is advertised for the high rev folks and that is not me.

I did the #2 for my wife and she's a killer with that drill. She is a med to low tracker with not a lot of speed but this drill has the biggest arc to her ball she has ever had. Needless to say, she kicks my bu$$ with it most of the time.

I put her pin/pap at 4 1/4 with the heart approx 2 1/4 right of her thumb. If I het her another NM, I'll put the pin closer to 4 and the heart closer to 3 just to see if that'll help her out on her 10 pins. ( yes, she uses it on 10 pins...making that puppy ride the one board to the point I'm having heart failure watching it, so now I just turn my head !!) She's learned that way for her 10 pins and is close to 90% on tham, but if you have a heart, don't watch her ! she'll make you want to cry she hugs that one board !

Anyway, yes, the #2 is a great drill if you are looking foe a strong arc, no snap , but huge arc.

The drill pattern that shows the pin above the fingers is the #6 layout.  I have 2 NM's with the #6 layout and a 3rd NM with the pin high above the ring finger.  Each NM has the pin left of my thumb in my ball track.

The pictures on the drill sheet are just guides.  Pin above the bridge (in between the fingers) is 5.5" from my pap.  Now this location may be 4.5" from another bowlers pap.  So the pic is just a rough estimate of where the pin would be.  

Since you didn't have luck with the pin at 4" from your pap, I would suggest placing it 5" from your pap.  Remember that the PIN is what controls the track flare on the ball.  I know several strokers that use long pin to pap locations because of there slow ball speed.  This helps the ball retain it's energy before it hit's the back end.  

Here's do this.  Check your track flare.  Does your NM have a lot of flare rings?  Are the flare rings tight or is there a decent distance between each ring?

I would place the pin 5" from your pap and keep the HART in your ball track.

  Another layout you can do is the "trick layout".  Place the pin high above the fingers but close to the VAL at a distance of 4.5" from your pap.  What this type of layout does is create a lot of length but has the flare of a strong pin location.  You get a long and super strong back end reaction.

I hope this helps.  I don't think your HART location is the problem.  I just feel your pin location is too strong for this type of ball.  Everyone I know that has loved this ball has had the pin at least 4.5" from there pap.

I got mine last weekend with the number 2 drill. I wanted something stronger but the Number 1 drill looked appealing but this drill was exactly what I wanted and the number 3 drill looked better but I have most my equipment drilled like that. I wanted something around 4" to the PAP stacked and that is what I got. A hard rolling arc and a nice, continuous finish at the pins. This ball kicks ass
