No Mercy Layout Question
« on: January 24, 2007, 01:24:57 AM »
Has anyone used the #8 layout for low track players.  My No Mercy has a modified #1 layout and hits great (794 w/ a 290 last night), but my PAP is 4" over and 1/2" up and I track a little low and was wondering if the #8 layout hooks a lot for lower track bowlers, as I was looking for a little more hook than my current layout for carrydown conditions. Thanks.

I would not change the layout. Change the cover and you will see a very noticable difference

I changed the cover to 1000 grit abralon and it worked much better but was looking for a compliment to this ball, maybe one that hooks a little sooner on the carry down for a lower tracker such as myself, thank you for the response bluerrpilot.  This is why I was thinking of one with a #8 layout, but have yet to see anyone post about that particular drilling.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

I am drilling one today for a lefty, PAP is 3 3/4 over 5/8 up ( very low but fairly normal track diameter...not a off the side spinner with an ash tray diameter track ). He is a good bowler. I think the key is pin under and still maintain pin to pap at 4-5, and hit the surface to 1000-2000. Will let you know after he uses it tonight. Al

#8 low tracker lefty threw his new ball last night. He was somewhat doubtful on this ball to begin with because several fellow league bowlers do not like their NoMercy's drilled #1, they say it will not hook. I believe their pin to axis is too short (3 3/8 instead of 4 to 4 1/2 as instructed) and the ball is burning up. This ball hooks and doesn't stop. He was pleasantly surprised. Didn't bowl particularly well due to too many over reactions and several splits. The ball is set up with pin below middle finger, pin to pap is 4 1/2( his PAP is 3 3/4 over and 5/8 up ), Heart is low and in his track 3 inches right of thumb center(lefty), cover is at 1000 abralon. He kept moving right with feet and eyes until he got lined up and then had error room left (outside) and some tug room. Ball had that famous NoMercy hit and carry once he gor it near the pocket. Strongest ball he has ever rolled. He wanted max hook (thus the cover at 1000) but now may have to go up to 2000.

My NoMercy pin below ring #1 layout ( 4 inch pin to axis ) and heart in track 2 inches left of center, and cover at 1000, is 5 boards stronger than my NoMercy #1 pin above box finish. I think the pin below is key for earlier read esp for low track players. My PAP is 5 over 7/8 up.

#8 should be a great layout for you. Hope this helped, Al
