No Mercy or Black Widow?
« on: December 01, 2006, 01:49:06 PM »
I just got these in stock and I am very intrigued. I am even considering putting holes one for myself. But here's my question to all of you guys who are using or have drilled a bunch of these balls....

Is there a layout for these ball that will allow me to do what I want? I have a huge hole in my arsenal and need to fill it with a solid resin.

I need more giddy up than my 4x4 Cobalt Pearl but less than my 5x4 Super Carbide Bomb. Less length than the Cobalt but more than the Super. Late rev so it'll recover is also needed....

Any ideas? I can suggest balls for my custoemrs with no problem but selecting one for myself is always an issue.

HELP!!!!!

I have a coalt pearl and I was suprised how strong it is.I say go with the widow with the skid/flip layout if you want length and hard running on the backend.you need some dry boards but the widow is a great ball.after you try the widow you will be left wanting the same reaction with more oil, that's when you will drill up the no mercy, trust me.then you will understand the power of the dark Hammer's.

It seems to me as though these two balls have a similar hook potential with the slight edge going to the No Mercy.  Where the main difference comes about is in length and breakpoint shape.  The No Mercy is longer and much more angular and the breakpoint, while the widow is a bit earlier and more controllable.  I personally like the widow, and if I was to drill either, it would be the widow.  I feel this way though based upon my style, as I have pleanty of natural revs and would probably find the No Mercy to be a bit jumpy.  The Widow, on the other hand, would allow me to compete on a wide variety of lane conditions, from a wide variety of angles.

no mercy has a stronger cover and more mid lane roll, the widow is longer for me.the thing about the no mercy is it carries better than the widow, and that's saying alot.due to the core's on these balls the drilling makes a big difference.I'm drilling up another no mercy tomorrow so I can let you know what the difference between the two nm's and the widow are with the different layouts.

OOB tonight with newly drilled No Mercy: 259, 300. I made sure the heart was in the track and cg in positive quadrant, had the pin about 1 1/2 inches right of ring finger--3/3/8ths from my pap. It rolled liked a Brunswick on steroids; absolutely beautiful reaction that had heads turning. It NEVER rolled out and handled a pair of lanes where the left one was hooking like crazy and the right was about 12 boards tighter.

I've got 2 BW's but the Mercy is a whole different ball.

I believe the Widow goes very long and hooks violently on the backend.

Thanks guys...my problem is further compounded by an incompetent lane man who seems to want to make the knuckle chuckers happy. If you have any hand at all you need to throw it 20 MPH to get it down the lane IF you want to play anywhere on the right side.

I need a ball I can play deep with and still get the pop on the backend to carry the 10 pin. The Super Carbide Bomb has the recovery to allow me to play deep but has too much coverstock and doesn't get downlane far enough. The Pearl Cobalt gets the length I need but won't turn the corner once the breakpoint gets messy...

Any other suggestions? I also have a couple Toxics, a Pain and some Total Infernos coming next week.

Thanks!!!!

Black Widow will allow deeper angles to be played better than No Mercy IMO.

I think, I'd try the Toxic if playing a deeper line stronger on backend than the Doom .  Pain is a smoother ball.....don't know anything that the TI will do on deeper inside line.

It's the same cover. The ball motion difference is caused by  the core

Keep looking... I'm sure there's a 300 in one of those balls you keep
buying!!

cover on the N.M is stronger plus the core puts it in a roll ealier.
Doug, what type of lanes do you bowl on?also,Brunswick covers are stronger IMO.if you have a prety good wall then go with the widow with the skid/flip drill.

six pack...

Our house has wooden lanes that were resurfaced 2 years ago. When they pulled finish last year they used a different grit on the sander to do the outsides than they did the insides so the hook character outside of 8 is different than inside.

The oil used is Prodigy and the cleaner is Pure.

Oil pattern is 32 feet buffed to 38 I am told. Basic top hat but the wall has been smoohted out some. There is no taper in the pattern. The amount of oil at 15' and 32' is (for all intents and purposes) the same...55-60 units in the middle, blended to 10 and then a drop off to less than 5 units from 8 out but the outsides won't flip unless you can hook the 1 board.
