Saw myself a No Mercy today..
« on: November 09, 2006, 10:43:14 AM »
I saw a No Mercy today in action, well i don't know if you wanna call it action, lol. But anyways the guy using it, looked like a normal bowler, so i decided to watch. Yes layout 1 was used on this as well. He threw it, and i almost fell out of my seat! That ball.. didn't even move!! It might have been the bolwer, BUT he had a normal axis rotation to make it hook though, and had a good amount of revs. It hit VERY hard, i will say that, and i'm NOT bashing this ball. I don't know why it didn't move though? But anyways here's my little experience with this ball in "action".

Well i'm going to make a vid of mine on Sat. hopefully.  Then I will post it on here.  For those that say this ball doesn't hook makes me laugh!

Mine is drilled with the pin above the bridge and HART 1" left of thumb.  This is layout #6 on the drilling sheet.  I bowled with it the first time last night.  I didn't get to use it a lot but will get more practice on Sat.

Well even with the limited playing time I have with this ball it still showed me it's muscle.  The BACK END move is just plain sick!  Very strong back end.

Trust me young man this ball is for real.  If the guy your watching throw this ball doesn't get hook out of it then it's him.  It's not the ball.  In fact he must of been trying not too hook it.  Take a look at the vid from Buddies.  It's on this site!

What was the pattern?

What was the length of the pattern?

What was the overall oil volume?

Was the lane fresh?

Was there carrydown?

Was the ball drilled correctly in relation to this bowler's PAP?

Did you see this bowler throwing any other equipment? If so, how did the other balls react?

Hopefully you're getting my point here...

I'll answer all of these.. and let's just say my weak layed out Desert Heat was out hooking it. Once again i'm not bashing the ball, i'm just reporting what i saw.
quote:
What was the pattern?
Easy 10 x 10, with oil in the middle dry outside 10
What was the length of the pattern?
Kinda short if you ask me, i was bowling next to him
What was the overall oil volume?
Not much, it went away quick
Was the lane fresh?
Yes, it was fresh to begin with, but for synthetics they sure break down fast
Was there carrydown?
No
Was the ball drilled correctily in relation to the bowler's PAP?
It was drilled layout number #1
Did you see this bowler throwing any other equipment? If so, how did the other balls react?
I saw him throw a Black Widow, that didn't move either :-/

Hopefully you're getting my point here...

It was most likely burning up because of the scarce amount of oil.

When a ball "burns up" doesn't it lose it's hitting energy? Because it was sure hitting very hard

I didn't use the #1 layout and I;m really glad I didn't. Mine moves like it's on a race track, backend like I've never seen. I'm not saying the #1 layout is NOT the one to use, but from reading those that used it, I'd have second thoughts about using it for any of my customers.

I do love the ball, don't get me wrong, still thinking of drilling up a B/W or a second N/M, but I can't say I care for #1. Using #2 or #8 for my wife, she's right at that 4 1/2 mark, give or take, still haven't decided.

Again, IMO, this is a GREAT ball, just read the drill sheet and decide what is best for you, not just #1. JMO

Well, i never wanted to put the No Mercy down i'm sorry if i did because it looks like a great ball! I'm just in soo much shock after i saw it tonight :-/

The guy had the revs, he probably had a little less than me, he through it down and in up the dry boards, and it made a little 2-3 board hook.

Yes i have seen the one from BuddiesProShop but i'm just saying what it did on my lanes.
Hope i didn't make people not like the ball :-/

Don't beat yourself up about it, bro. This is what this board is all about. It's good that you shared your experience with us. It could get cleared up, who knows.
It's not your fault the No Mercy fell short!

Rogers correct.  I decided a while back that pins above the bridge will be used on every ball in my arsenal.  With my game that pin position seems to work the best.  Well when I had my NO MERCY drilled up I went with layout #6 and put the pin above the bridge.  Well this was a correct choice for me because the back end move is just plain sick!  It's that strong.

Don't forget that with any bowling ball the covers can be adjusted to give one that perfect reaction.  If the ball doesn't hook enough for you then dull it.  If it's too strong then polish it.  You get the point.

Dulling a ball down will give more of an arcing motion. Usually used on the heavier patterns. Polish will give it length, and backend when it's needed.
Hook is only a small part of the puzzle.

Don't worry about it.  He may have had it drilled wrong.  I have heard that if drilled like a normal ball with the HART far right for a right hander it will act like a spare ball.  Who knows this may have been how this guy had his drilled.

Ladt night I threw mine on a broken down league shot and couldn't play anywhere but 4th and 5th arrow because of how strong it was.  That's why I put it away because it was just not the ball for this pattern.  I can't wait to use it for the first time on my league patterns!

I think people expected one layout to work for them. As I have done, as well as chitown, we strayed from #1 because we knew, or at least hoped, that that was the correct layout for us. I just can't see any ball having one layout work as expected for everyone. I think folks must look at the options, weigh them for your normal style/conditions and pick the one, no matter which one, is best for you.

I still thinking of the B/W even though my team mate thinks they are to close, maybe for him, but we have different styles and releases, so it's still an option for me.

I could probably not use chitown's layout over mine, but as you can see, several people can use this ball, just pick the layout that is best for you.

FastTracker, nothing wrong in your observations, as chitown said, that's what this is for. In your opinion, it's not the ball people say it is, and that's fine, you see what you see. If it helps one person decide on a ball, again, that's what we are here for...help and opinions. BTW, nice observation.
