Praise the (black) Pure Hammer!
« on: April 05, 2009, 09:13:25 PM »
Played a local tournament last Saturday on ridden lanes (no maintenance throughout the day with 31 teams playing!), and I was happy to have my black Pure Hammer with me! It proved to be an excellent choice as the lanes broke down ever more, with games of 244 & 256 and 224 & 200 (only 2 consecutive games each time I used it) - with the high game of the day and highest average in the qualifying and initial final rounds.

Great and unique piece, and something that I feel has been missing in Hammer's line-up for some time: a low RG ball with a mild coverstock that "mocks" a classic urethane reaction with some extra traction, smooth and arcing, not jumpy on the dry. Not an itchy pearl reactive or a non-core ball like the Razyr.

Maybe a suggestion for the future, say a Vibe or Raw series ball with the urethane/resin blend of the original black Pure Hammer? Highly recommended...

Second that, and I love mine for late games. What I like so much about it is that despite being quite hooking-happy on light conditions, it still keeps very good energy throughout the lane. Roll-out has never been a problem with for me, rather "steering" it into the pocket because of early hook tendency despite a length drilling. But that's not bad at all, the ball allows me to go deep and keep on scoring.

And: its smoothness is great. I can keep mine at 1500 grit and it still gets down the lane well.

Very underrated ball, indeed. I am happy I found mine in a dark pro shop corner
