Author Topic: Getting great angularity in a Whup'n...How do I repeat it in other balls? (Read 3955 times)

I have a No Mercy Whup'n that is just totally sick for me.... this ball makes a sharp left for me like no other ball I have thrown, including my Widows, No Mercy, and way too many other balls. As a 300 RPM or less guy, I am just loving this!

I am not sure why I am getting such a great reaction... looking for a sanity check from my fellow BR members. I'd like to reproduce it in my other gear.

Similarities to my normal layouts:

Pin located about 3/4" right of ring

HART 2"+ left of thumb, just like my standard No Mercy. Most my other stuff has a MB in the strong 1 1/2" to 2" right of thumb.

Differences:

This ball has a 4" pin (normally I use about a 3" pin).

CG not in line: CG located exactly 3 inches right of the line from pin to HART. (most my stuff is in line)

Huge X hole.... barely inside the legal requirement for side weight.

Location of X hole is different too; it's like 1" lower than center down my VAL. (usually X hole is on intersection of VAL and HAL).

Open to thought on why this ball rocks for me.... thanks!

One last question: to find the MB, do I just go 6 3/4" right of the HART?

Yes pretty much.. a line perpendiular to the pin to hart line..

make an arc 6 3/4 below the pin.. then from the HART make an arc 6 3/4 to the right... Where those intersect is the true MB.

does that make sense

Makes sense.... just did it and my MB is much further right on this ball than my other stuff.... probably an inch at least. That explains a lot!

Leave it to me to learn about where my MB works best from a ball without a marked MB.... irony!

maybe have you driller find out the actual drill angle vs you other balls angles...would be nice to know...let me know what they are when you find out--------------------

Well, this ball is 70* and most of my stuff is 85* to 90*....

sorry.. I remember you saying that.. so yes it does make sense..sort of
I guess 85 to 90 is just too late or little revving.. still not sure how it works. I know for me 45 makes it want to hook early and smooths the ball out ..
55 the ball has a pretty big backend but smoother, 60 - 65 the ball is a bit longer but even more angular..
I'm guessing that if you had enough hand 70 and higher would be even more angular but you need to use something that matches up with your game. I have seen guys with alot of hand with a large drill angle (90 and higher) and the ball will barely move for them..

I do have another theory that deals with the rotation of the core and whether the MB is on the inside or outside of the rotation but I can't get anyone to discuss it or go along with me on it..

Well, I drilled up a ball with these new specs. And yep, I am getting the same angularity and I did with the NMW... so yep, was able to replicate that reaction. That means I have not optimizing my MB location for the past few years.... well, at least for angularity.

With some of the shots I have been throwing with this layout on these last two drillings, it's been enlightning! Blowing up some racks. Feel like I've grown a third testicle.
