Top Weight & Pin Length for a BWB
« on: July 09, 2008, 07:05:02 AM »
I think I will replace my Scorchin' Inferno with a Black Widow Bite for my new heavy oil ball. I have heard lots of good things from people about it. And it will be my first Hammer Ball since all I ahve in my bag are Brunswicks. Not to mention Ebonites(mainly The One Series) hate the way I throw. To get down to it I wanted to know what top weight and pin size should I get when I order my ball? I throw at 17-18mph with alot of revs. Thanks alot for any and all replies!

2-4" pin and 2-3oz of top weight will limit your drilling options very, very little.  Static weights and ball specs play a very limited roll in ball reaction nowadays, especially with the strong asymmetric cores in the BWB and Complete NV (from your other thread).  You'd do better to decide on a layout first and get a pin length and top weight that lets you use that layout without having to worry about a too-large weight hole.

Generally, though, 2-4" and 2-3oz is extremely versatile and you'd be hard-pressed to find a typical, common layout that would be difficult or impossible to use with a ball with those specs.

Thanks alot and I will prob have the ball drilled up like my Radical which is very strong. My Scorchin' had my pin over my fingers and my Vapor and Radical are to the far right. And both of those balls have a much better reaction to what condition I use them for. I will go to my old driller and have make me a custom layout again like on all my balls due to the way I throw. Thanks alot though.
