anyone dull a Doom?
« on: January 20, 2006, 02:34:43 AM »
Has anyone dulled a Doom?  I'm going to buy another one and dull it with green scotch brite to see how it is.  It's going to take me a couple of weeks to get another one though.

While I realize that you love the ball......Why would you take a pearlized skid/flip ball and attempt to turn it into a dull early roller??

Why not just get a different Hammer product?   Big Rig Diesel comes to mind....

Great question.  I know this might seem strange to some but not to me.  The reason I say this is because I really like the cover and core.  I like the specs of this ball.  The rg and diff.  I have found thru trial and error on buying balls that the rg and diff. specs on this ball and other balls with very similar specs work great for me.

I really feel that if I dulled a Doom that the cover could handle a good amount of oil.  I could be wrong but I don't feel I am.  Who knows this could be a great ball for heavier oil when dulled.

I have owned balls that with the OOB cover were nothing special but once I put polish on them it was a different ball.  Different in terms of turning a OK ball into a beast!

To me the Doom is a special ball that every bowler needs to have in there bag.  If my thinking is correct when I buy another one and use the same layout but dull it to 600 grit this ball will also be a beast on the lanes.

I would go with the hawg wild or the new road hawg, i also like the doom and have a 4 x 4 drilled hawg wild which handles more oil. Good ball and will give you another stronger ball option, i am getting the road hawg if my shop gives me a good deal otherwise i will pass myself on it. Since my big flop with the One ball i am leary of this oil absorpation covers that ebonite/hammer are marketing.

I have my heavy oil needs covered right now.  I just really like the doom and would love to see if a dulled one would be just as good.  Just an experiment.  I don't want to touch the cover on the one I have now.  This ball is just to good in it's box cover.  I also know once you knock the polish of a ball getting it back to it's original state is just to difficult.

Just get a heavy oil ball and don't take the chance of dulling this ball.. Its not a good idea to use a ball on a surface that it was not intended to be used on.. Its normally not a good idea..

Thats my 2 cents..

I'm sorry bud but I don't agree with that.  I have had many balls that I have polished and they worked great and some even better than with the box cover.  I also have dulled balls that were polished and have had great success with those as well.

As I said in my other post reply I have my heavy oil needs covered.  I have a heavy oil ball already in my main arsenal and also have a couple in my closet.  I just really like this ball and would like another one to try this with.  I'm not touching the cover on the one I use now in my main arsenal because with the box cover it fits perfect in my arsenal.  This will just be an experiment.  Plus if it does work like I think it will it may replace one of my med/heavy oil balls in my main arsenal.
