Pure Hammer: Black or Burgundy?
« on: March 30, 2006, 12:02:18 AM »
I'm sure this was discussed back when these balls were newer, but my search function only goes back 30 days.

I'm wondering how these two Pure Hammers compare to each other.  I'm specifically wondering which one is smoother off the dry, and/or which one is more appropriate for a lane transitioning from medium toward drier.

I had a 16 lb black pure.  I traded it when I dropped to 15 lb equipment.  The black pure is a great ball.  Very smooth reaction and hits great.

Shiv-  transition and smoothness award goes to the Burgendy one.  It also wins the DIME award.

Black-  revved WAY too early for me, and I had it with a 5" pin to PAP, and SHINY!!

I didn't overly care for either of these balls.  I just don't think I matched up with the core.   In the Blade series, I liked the balls with the flip block.   The PURE doesn't have that.   The cover on the Black is much stronger than the new one.

Flip a coin.....it is half a dozen of one vs. 6 of the other.

Thanks for the responses.  I am going to try the Burgundy.  The urethane type move is a good one for my game.  I preferred the Blades that did not have the flip block--specifically the Sling and the Sharp, although the Sling was stronger than what I needed for the lineup spot I bought it for.  That core (I think of it as the hand grenade core) seems to be a good one for me.

What I'm hoping to get out of the Burgundy Pure Hammer is a ball that will help me stay out of trouble in the transition game.  My usual lanes are old wood and start out medium, but when they start to change, my breakpoint can move toward me at frightening speed.  I've been wanting to try one ever since they came out, and now that I hear that Hammer is going to shuffle their lineup, I want to get ahold of one before it is too late and I end up wondering if I should have tried it.  At the price, why not?

Thanks again,
Shiv
