I Just Bought A Raw Hammer Doom (Help)
« on: August 27, 2006, 11:24:35 AM »
I just bought on Friday and I haven't used it yet. I would like to how good of a ball this is. I got this ball as a backup for when the lanes are about light-medium oil. My other ball is a Ebonite V2 Strong/R. Is the Doom a good ball to backup the V2?

Yes Indeed. It's all about what you want the ball to do. Drill it with a control drill, and you get a very hard-hitting control ball.

Drill it for backend reaction and you get a super, lite-oil, devastating destroyer.

Drill it for max-hook and prep the cover a little, and you get a skid-flip monster, that can actually handle medium to lite oil, as well.....and the carry is awesome!

Your choice...good luck. Just look up some of ChiTown's posts for additional info!

Yes.  The Doom is a great ball due to its versatility.  It has a great combination of control and power, and it is usable on anything from medium to light conditions.  I have even had success with the Doom on the heavier stuff a couple of times, though I really needed to slow my ball speed down for it to turn over on  the heavy.  The Doom is the ball I use 98% of the time, and I don't think you can go wrong with it no matter how you lay it out.  I have a review of this ball up if you'd like to take a look as well.

Just a reprise here folks.....picked up another Doom. It's drilled 5x4. Control drill. I had been using it on a medium to medium heavy shot, over the summer. Had to slow wayy down to get a good turn.....and a very tight line, I might add. Was moderately pleased about it, but not thrilled.

Took it to the spinner. Knocked the factory polish off, and hit it with a 1000 grit abralon pad. Wow! Big difference. Ball is still smooth as silk with great carry, but now I have area. Giving it a little surface has really, allowed it to shine. I'm able to play medium hvy with no doubts whatsoever!

And best of all.....it still has that awesome Hammer carry! Yeah, ChiTown was right. You probably could have an entire arsenal of Dooms.

First nite of league, I used just my Dooms all nite. I usually go thru four balls just because. Not this time. Shot 630 and wasn't even trying to!

Jesse James is correct.  One can build a very good arsenal of just Dooms.  I have proved that thoery to myself.  In fact one of my favorite Dooms is the one I have with the the polish knocked off and re-polished with Ebonites matte polish.

I still say the Doom is by far the best bowling ball I have ever owned.

I didn't really do to good with it but I know why I didn't. I shot 2 151's. But the reason why I bowled that bad was because I haven't bowled in over three weeks and I had to be off of my feet for awhile so my stamina isn't to good at all and my arm strength isn't good yet either. I'm gonna go bowling Friday and I know I will do better. If somebody tells me how I will post a picture of the ball to show you how I got it drilled. The pin action was amazing I couldn't believe how much action there was. Just tell me how to post a picture and I will show you how I got it drilled. Another reason why I bowled bad was because there was absolutly no oil on the lanes, it was completely dry.
