Well depends on your luck. Had black widow when it came out wonderful ball for about 30 games Now i have a dry lane ball. Had my driller clean it baked it sand it nothing. We sanded it down to 220 and then brought it back all the way up to polish so i can use it. Hammer and ebonite both are terrible covers. Stay with brunswick if you want it too last

Hi DC!

I feel with proper maintenance to ANY bowling ball, no matter the brand, you can make a ball last for as long as you choose. Hope this helps! God Bless!

DC,

I agree with the above post, I have a Black Widow Solid that I have over 300 games on and I have given it hot water baths, clean after each set and just used Valentino's Resurrection to resurface and it is still rolling strong!

The first guy that posted an answer to your question is an unadulterated moron. He evidently doesn't know jack about anything. Hammer has not had any more issues with their covers than anybody else. I have never soaked or baked  any Hammer ball, just cleaned them after every use and Clean and Dulled them every few weeks and they never lose their hook action. Then again I've never owned a ball that did. Must say something about ucumin2 and his care of his bowling equipment.

The first Hammer I got, a No Mercy, died on me after 100 games. However, I almost never cleaned it (I'm an idiot) but after I had it resurfaced and put through the Hook-Again it's been like new for my father ever since. Go-to ball for him on heavier oil, and he makes sure he cleans it after every set.

None of the other hammers I've bought (Toxic, Bite, BWS) have had the issue since I cleaned them immediately after each set.

Did you ever try and xtract the oil from the cover?

Cleaning the bowling balls cover is not going to remove oil from the ball.  Using a HOT WATER BATH or some other form of oil xtraction is the best way to keep the ball reacting like new.

Tony C never said that he had supposedly 300 games on his BWS, I did and they are actual games.  Just bowled a 4 game set with it on Monday and will be using it tonite in league.  You may have had problems with your ball but that does not mean that  because you have problems that every other Hammer or Ebonite user has the same problems.  I did state the maintenance that I have done with my BWS to keep it in condition.  DC if you are willing to use maintenance and do occasional oil extractions you should be just fine with any Hammer or Ebonite products.

I still have my original Diesel Particle from 6 years ago with approximately 300 games on it.  I take good care of my equipment, using microfiber towels between shots, a hand cleaning with degreaser/rubbing alcohol between sessions, and a ball spinner cleaning after every 30 games or so.

I've never resurfaced this ball and over time the reaction has gotten slightly (2-3 boards overall) weaker.  To me though, it is a better ball now because it rolls more evenly. It was gold at last year's TAT. Paid for itself in side pot money.

No problem with any other piece of Hammer equipment.

If you knew anything about bowling balls, baking or heating your ball is not recommended by the manufacture.  Storm and Ebonite the leaders in best balls in the world do not advise to bake the ball.  Just good cleaning is best and resurface when needed
