Now that I've got 'em all, where do they fit?
« on: February 06, 2007, 11:25:17 PM »
Hey everyone. I've been on a bit of a Hammer buying binge as of late, and I've gotten a pretty good collection going. The only problem is that I'm not quite sure where they're all going to fit within my arsenal. Here is what I've got and where I see them fitting:

Flood: Big Blue
Heavy: Hawgzilla
Med-heavy (rolly): Hawg Wild
Med-heavy (snappier): Black Widow (pin under)
Med (control/benchmark): Hi Rev
Med (snappier): Black Widow (High pin)
Med w/carrydown: Big Blue Pearl
Med-light (snappier): Doom
med-light (arc): Blue Vibe
Light: Burgundy Pure Hammer

I don't have the Blue Vibe just yet; I'm hoping to engineer a trade for that as well as for a Big Deal. I also may have a Blade Pearl coming--that would be my third! How do you guys see this lineup shaping up? Are there any big holes, or would you suggest other Hammer balls for certain spots? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I'm kind of surprised you didn't get a Pain in there, possibly in the med-heavy rolly spot, or the benchmark slot.  I found the Pain to be one of the most controllable, readable balls I ever threw.  Of course, I'm kind of a lousy bowler.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Believe me, if someone out there wants to offer up a Pain, I'd be willing to try to work a trade for it. I just haven't found anyone yet. I'm still on the prowl. I've heard the Pain is an outstanding ball.

I don't think you need anything else.  That's a large arsenal that could cover everything one would ever see.

Now if you do run across the PAIN it would be a great piece to add to your collection.  The PAIN is one hell of a ball!

Got a 16 lb PAIN with low games (maybe 9?) that I might be willing to let go of.....

For younger people looking for a ball, I'd agree as the ball needs to look cool and be able to hook from gutter to gutter.

For those of us who know why Hammer put it back out, I think it's more that the ball wasn't as good as the original.  I have been using an original Hi-Rev for the better part of 6 or so years.  I've been through 3 of them I think and I still have another 4 sitting here at work.

Color is a non issue with me as I've also got a Pink Hammer and a Bravo (3D Pffset Pearl second).  All pink/fuscia/purple-pink.

For me, the newer High Rev didn't offer the same confidence in over-reacting.  The older stuff is just that much more consistent when it hits the dry.  The newer High Rev was still too jumpy, though not anywhere near as jumpy as the Vicious.  Control was suppose to be a huge thing with that ball, but I saw control being there in what I already had....the original.

bowl me over,

I think it has to do with our backends at times.  They can be jumpy at times and then the next day, have no bite.  I don't always go by the numbers as well for that reason.

I've thrown the newer one and the original on the same condition and with a similar drill and the older is without a doubt more smoother and controlled with the way I bowl.

Not sure about the Big Blue for floods. I suppose if you take it down to 500 or so grit, drill it stack leverage and have lots of hand I suppose it would work ok. Besides that, its a good looking arsenal.
