Hey guys, I just drilled my Razor Blade yesterday, and got it to the lanes today. It ended up being drilled 4x4" Pin to PAP with a weight hole and left with the OOB finish. Here's a pic..

Now today, the lanes were freshly oiled as usual on fridays. I used it the second game, and the ball went dead straight, and hit like a marshmellow, so I wondered what was up. I then get into about game 5-6 after throwing my Track Inertia a lot, and my sister was throwing a house ball. The carrydown showed up as usual. Now the Razor Blade started hooking. I used it on and off thinking that it might need to be broken in first.. am I right that it needed to be? Maybe it performs better on the carrydown since it's particle pearl? I don't get it really. Any other Razor Blade experiences out there like mine? I might just not be used to it because out of the box, all my balls are hook monsters usually lol. Thanks in advance..

the razor blade is not particle pearl, its a reactive (cut throat coverstock) ball..

I contacted Hammer though the "Ask an Expert" thing on their website, and they told me it's a "particle/pearl with a 1000 grit sanded box finish"

I'm just going off what they told me.

email Brian Graham with Hammer and ask him.. I do not believe it is a true particle pearl.. It might have particle and pearl additives, but the base coverstock is cutthroat reactive..

It was billed as the strongest Blade to date when it was released and it mush much weaker than the Saw Blade as I had that ball..

Brian,

yes, it's a Cutthroat tpye coverstock with particles and it's pearlized (particle pearl). Cuthroat is the name of the base resin, as far as I know. I've seen CutThroat as solid resin and pearl and particle pearl. BTM really liked this coverstock, just before the Ebonite oil-suckers came around.

No, it doesn't need to be "broken-in" like DT Soaker coverstocks. The 1000 grit coverstock surface is fairly strong, with mild-ish core. I put light polish on mine and it barely handles medium oil, with drilling similar, very close to yours. BTM's reviews called it a very flippy ball with strong backend. Maybe with the stock surface and decent hand.

It can be a very useful ball.

I had both the saw and razor,great med. oil ball with some carry down.the core seemed lopey with a big flip on the back end.on wood lanes they worked great for me but on Brunswick synthetics the carry down would make it over/under.probably due to the lopey core and the flip reaction.I liked them both but did'nt keep them around in my arsenal.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Usually my topics never get replys lol.

Anyways, I'm just hoping this ball starts doing a LITTLE better. Tonight into games 5-6, it stared hooking nicely like I thought it would. But there's not 5-6 games in league to let it settle in!!

I'll be posting back with some updates on this ball in the next couple days. I'd like to polish it, but as charlest said, I don't want this ball to be really that weak. I'm hoping it turns out all right. I spent so much time trying to find this ball. It really revs up fast, and hard like it's going to hook, but it just never did. (like I said, it took it 5-6 games to start)

FYI I had used an abrasive polish on mine. And last Tuesday it was the strongest ball I had but it wasn't strong enough. So I re-sanded it to 600 and then applied a non-abrasive polish - Legends factory finish. Will try it again this week, the last week of the summer season. I think they oiled more heavily in preparation for the winter season.

The Cut-Throat on the Hammer Razor Blade was a particle pearl coverstock.  It would be considered a very light load particle coverstock.

I love mine. I have found that with this ball, you really have to have some oil or it will just burn up. I was able to get this thing to move(a at 800 grit) on heavy patterns such as the Shark and scorpion where other balls would't move. The ball is really heavy rolling but with plenty of backend.

Jeremy, I would also right now love a NIB Blade ball! All the Blades i've tried (2 Switch, 1 Razor, 1 Sling) were all amazing!

I've tested out my Razor Blade now with a VERY, VERY light polishing with Beans' Secret Sauce (cover looks about 4000 grit actually), and the ball is absolutely amazing! It's now out hooking my Inertia instead of the Inertia out hooking it! LOL.

Very clean through the fronts, with a smooth, hard hook on the back. Great hit! (for once out of Hammer).. I'm hoping this will be a great ball with some more practice put into it!

The ball was obviously just losing its energy, and burning up with it's stock OOB finish. The polish helped tremendously!
