Need info/opinions on the BWB!!!
« on: June 04, 2008, 07:30:23 AM »
How does everyone like their BWB?  My fiancée wants 1, shes a 160+ average bowler with low ball speed(were working on it).  I was all for getting it for her, adding some polish & going with a weak/semi-weak drilling.  I then read the reviews on bowlingball.com, wow….there r quite a few REALLY bad reviews.

Im hoping to get some honest answers about the bite here.  I know its probably a bit too much ball for her, but……she wants it & if I can get it to tame down a bit, and or get her ball speed up, I think it will be ok.

Someone please help, im ordering equipment tonight & if this is absolutely the wrong ball for her, I have to talk her out of it & into something else…….BWP maybe?

Probably a 200 dollar mistake wait for the Venom in a month or get something not that strong, I think the new Psycho would be a better choice.

I helped a female teammate get a Doom dang if that was not the best fit I have ever seen, raised her from 130 to 160 area. To me the Psycho would be perfect fit or even a Toxic or new Emerald.

I have no complaints. The Bite may fit well for her even with the lower ball speed because the Bite does go long. You may also want to look into the Venom, It's supposed to go even longer. BTW, I don't have the fastest ball speed either.

What I do not understand, why, when you say, tame drill, polish to tame it down....not get a 'tamer' ball in the first place ?

Why buy a Shelby GT, V8 and drive 35 MPH ?

Get her a Toxic or a Psycho and be done with it.

I too was skeptical about getting the Bite after I read the reviews on bowlingball.com  I ended up getting one, and I like it.  It goes longer than my Beat'n.  I have rolled my highest series with it(805 earlier this year).  I also know a female that has one and she has slower ball speed as well, but it works great for her as well.  She averages in the 180's.

i liked my bite when i first got it, could get real deep with it.  now its got around 75 games on it and it is a friggan dart!  i have resurfaced it, hot water bath, ebonite hook again, all for nothing.  thought maybe ball was burning up, so i took the grit up, polish, etc.  still went straight.  only thing i havent tried is the revivor oven.  spent too much on trying to get it to work that i dont feel like spending more on it.  its now in my kids sand box out back.  first ball that has died on me, real disappointed.

I've been very skeptical about people saying "ball death" because frankly I've never had a ball die on me but what I witnessed with the Bite makes me believe more.  The two people that had one that I bowled with had great reactions from them at first but it just got worse and worse over a really short amount of time to the point where both balls just seemed dead.

that sounds exactly like what mine did.  i was skeptical to about people saying "ball death", but like i said, that was the first time for me.  i believe it happens now.  my other hammer, Toxic, is still going strong after over 100 games.  maybe its just some of the soaker covers are not up to standards, thus causing ball death.?  just a thought.  but to those that still use the Bite after 75 games....you lucky sumsabiatches!

I've got about 60 on mine and still reacts like new. I just clean it with Ultimate Black Magic cleaner after each set.

I'm a huge fan of the Black Widow Series.  In order of favorites is the Solid, Pearl, then the Bite.

The Bite goes super long, and on the correct condition, turns harder off the spot than any other ball I have thrown.

However I made the mistake of thinking it was a heavy oil ball, and on the longer patterns, it's just too long.

Overall...an OK piece for me, but will not see nearly as much lane time as my Solid and Pearl.

Hey all,

I have a somewhat mixed opinion about the Bite. My bite has a strong layout on it @ OOB finish (4000 Abralon) and it doens't have insane lenght (which is good for me, since I'm a bit speed dominant) but rather a strong arc and not skid-flip like about everyone else's Bite.

About ball-dead: The first 20 games this ball was wicked, super reaction. Than the reaction changed, I gave it a deep cleaning and now at approx. 50 games it has kept the same reaction.
It isn't the same Reaction as OOB, few boards less hook and more tame in the back-end but still going strong.

All in all: If money is no issue I can recommand the ball, becasue it is a great piece of equipment, but if u'r looking at a larger lifespan (like me) I would stay away from it.

Greetz.

Exactly!

There's many other balls in Hammers line up that would be a better fit.
