Solved my problem with the BW Bite
« on: August 24, 2008, 02:28:05 AM »
I'm currently have a BW Bite, Dimension and Supernova XP for my aresenal and its incomplete.

So onto the Bite.  I had the Bite drilled (by a pro shop)pin above the ring about 1 1/2 inches and the MB straight down.  I did not understand putting a long drilling in a ball that goes long especially with my ball speed. (my ball speed measured at just over 18 mph over the weekends tournament).  So I shelved the Bite, too long, too squirrely.  It sat on my shef with all my other Hammer equipment, 3 BWs, BW pearl, 2 Angers, 2 NM Beatn's, Doom Blue Vibe, Cherry Vibe.

But as I learn more about my game I thought about the Bite and decided to have the Bite re-drilled with the pin under the ring finger and the MB kicked right about 3/4 of an inch.  That made all the difference in the world for me and the Bite.  I only had one 600 series after the change, 675 and every other series was 700+.  I went from bottom of the league (one person league)to pulling within a few games of the overall winner for the summer, 214 average.

The drilling difference still allowed me to play down and in, my B game, but really helped me with my medium swing shot which is my A game.   The ball reved up beautifully still got down the lane well and came off the break point very strong with tremendous carry.  I have a second Bite that I will drill, but not sure how.

I did not match up well with Hammer last year very well and thats not a slam on Hammer, just didn't match up and I pulled the BW and the BW pearl off the shelf a couple of times with no luck.  But the Bite with this drilling really paid off for me.

I think there is a gap between he Dimension and the BW Bite, the Bite and the Supernova XP and something under the XP. I carry 6 bowling balls one being the Blue Dot.

Thanks for reading.

Smart Move, Barry.
Now if a few other people would think about the basic traits designed into a ball before drilling, they would also be a lot happier. So many people just put a length drill on any ball no matter what it is, if they want it to go long, as if every cover and every core were identical.

Are we talking the BW Bite released in Feb. 2008?  If so, I don't see the length in this ball.  Rated 11 in BTM.   Admittedly I have no knowledge of Hammer products an Anger the last one I tried and didn't like but wonder where this length comes from maybe just the ball speed that Nic has?

I have this ball at 45 X 4.5 X 20 and still this ball gets down the lane pretty far.  It's a good foot or so longer than my Gladiator with a 4x3 at the same surface.  Ball has a good read tho, I never saw it as a heavy oil ball at 4000 ab.
for me I would need to take it down to 1000 ab.  Of course being a lefty I need all the help on some fresh patterns as I can get so more surface is my friend.

Thank you for the replies.

Scotts33,  The Bite comes dull as I have seen in the pro shop.  Mine cleaned with Re-New it and 4000 ablaron has a sheen to it though tacky.  The ball just skids I tested the Bite because it was starting to dry out on the outside. Again the Bite got down the lane very well and was strong at the break point.  The Bite also allowed me to continue to move left and carry.  I agree that my ball speed allows me to get the ball further down the lane then most, but the recovery and consistancy of the break point is outstanding.

Thanks again,
