Looking for a ball to play on a league THS. I used to use all hammer equipment but my bowling balls were stolen at the alley. After that, I decided to try out the storm line and have used an Attitude Shift for the past year with OOB finish. It dropped my average from a 210 to a 190, so now I plan to try a Black Widow.

I wish I had specific info for my game, but I never had anyone check my rev rate and i do not know my PAP etc. All I do know is i comfortably throw between a 16-16.5 according to the Q. (I've had to throw my Attitude approximately 15 to get the reaction I need, which I am not happy with). I do not have a high rev rate, but I would say im around med.

Obviously I need a ball to complement my Attitude OOB. Im not quite sure what reaction im looking for, since my Attitude seems to be quite unpredictable giving me quite a few looks depending on where it hits the oil. When i get home I will upload a picture of my Attitude so you can see its drilling.

I would recommend the Black Widow. I have a hig rev rate and around the 16mph mark as well. The Black Widow is one of the best balls Ive ever owned. Its reliable and always comes back from a pitch out for me.

Thanks for the idea. Just wondering how an original would complement my attitude. The attitude is a 4000grit solid. Wouldn't it show close to the same look w/ a similar drill?

The BW Solid should give you a whole different look than the Shift ball. It's a powerhouse, and is one of the most versitile balls I've ever seen.

Also, the BW is a lower grit surface than the 4000 Attitude Shift. Two different reactions.

Fatboy, the Black Widow Solid and Bite are both at 4000 Abralon. That is not a lower grit than the Attitude he has. As for BBock, what type of reaction do you get out of the Attitude, is it a skid/flip type ball or does it have a lot of roll, what you described in your original post doesn't give that much info.

You mentioned the Attitude Shift is out-of-box in the initial post, but that goes against what you've said here. OOB for the Attitude Shift is 2000 abralon.

The standard reaction shape for the Attitude Shift is fairly long and strong, with a fairly angular breakpoint shape and likely to exhibit a hook/set type of reaction when it finds friction. It's a strong coverstock with a medium RG, asymmetrical core. That type of look may not fit your game since it can be more condition-specific.

If you want to try another Storm ball, the Dimension would be a little earlier, but more continuous and arcing on the backend to give you more room for error and probably better carry. If you want to go back to Hammer, the Bite is going to be earlier and a little less snappy than the original solid Black Widow.

This is all, of course, ignoring drill patterns and just based off the nature of the ball. Using a pin down layout with a longer pin-to-PAP distance will get you a smoother reaction, while putting the pin in a strong position and placing it high will give you a quicker reaction to friction for more backend and less continuation, for example. And of course polish would give you more length and more backend reaction while more surface would make the ball react earlier and smoother.

i planned on uploading a picture of the drill, but i havnt had a chance. i believe my attitude is drill pin over. my ball goes long and strong but its not predictable. i have quite different reactions throwing the same shot. my biggest issue is i cant figure out whether this ball is burning up to early and not finishing shots (req polish) or needs to be brought down for more overall hook. actually since i cant categorize this ball i cant really complement it with a new one. i guess im looking for the best of the blackwidow line for ths

After using my weaker symmetrical equipment exclusively for a few weeks, my strong assymetrical balls are pretty mysterious for me for awhile. All the while I'm hitting my boards at the arrows and maintaining pretty consistent speed, but can't find the pocket consistently. I think my weaker symmetrical equipment is just much more forgiving of release inconsistencies.

My recommendation would be to pick-up a medium-low RG, medium diff symmetrical reactive and to adjust the surface to the lane conditions. There are plenty of balls that fit this decription, and you'll probably save a bunch of money, too. It wouldn't hurt to spend some time while getting the ball drilled to find your axis point to make sure you'll get a more predictable ball reaction.

I have an Attitude, Black Widow Bite and original Black Widow. For the typical house shot, the original Black Widow works best for me. The Attitude and Bite are condition specific. The original Black Widow will be more versatile than the other two balls.

I'd say that you first need to determine whether the Attitude is burning up or whether it is having difficulty getting into a roll. A quick polish should tell you pretty quickly which is the case. If the Attitude Shift is burning up for you, either the pearl or the venom should work well (with the edge, in my opinion being to the pearl). If the Attitude shift is going too long, you'll pretty much have to go with the Bite, as I'd say that the original is a bit weaker than either the Attitude Shift or the Bite. The situation in which I'd drill the Original would be one in which your looking for the maximum predictability and mid-lane.
