Need some advice

Hi folks...

as you can see from my sig I am mostly concentrated on one company... but I want to take some other company's into my consideration.

So here my Question:
What ball from Hammer is the best suited for meds but can also take some more oil and still will be playable on the drier boards?
Why?
Cause I only wanna take one ball to training... so I need the most versatile Hammer ball that is there.

I also thought about the No mercy have it drilled smooth and take it to a longer skid with some polish (I don't like the way th Black widow works for a friend)

I might be inclined to go with the Pain, a very smooth but strong ball with a solid reactive cover.  I use mine almost exclusively in its OOB finish on just about anything.

Have you ever thought about the Wrath XP or Wrath SF from Columbia? My experience with the Wrath XP is that it likes med-heavy oil but still makes a good corner when it bumps the dry boards without jumping through the nose.  I also have a No Mercy but it reacts a little too violently to the dry for what you are looking for (I think). I have never been a fan of taking an aggressive ball (No Mercy)and killing it with a weak drilling.  I think you are better off going with a more aggressive drilling on a weaker ball (Wrath).  Just some food for thought!

Trust me, go with the DOOM. It's one of the best balls that I have ever thrown, and you can use it on just about any lane condition.

The PAIN is your answer!  This is one of the best, most versatile bowling balls I have ever rolled. There are not too many balls that can compete with the PAINS versatility.

This may be a dumb question, but I've seen varying answers.  Will the Pain handle more oil, than the Black Widow?  Or is the BW more ball?  I ask, because I have a BW and Doom, and looking for 1 more piece to add to my arsenal.  I bowled a tourney using the BW, and it was a 43 ft flat shot, and the BW, had almost no movement at all.  I am considering the No Mercy or HawgZilla, but have hear the Pain handles heavy oil.  I just wanted to an opinion on whether the Pain is less or more ball than the BW.

Ok first from what I understand the HAWG ZILLA handles a lot of oil.  I have never seen one thrown so this is just from what I read.

The PAIN has more mid-lane grab than the BW.  The PAINS cover is also very strong in box condition.  In box condition the PAIN is 2000 grit abralon.  At this surface the PAIN will handle med to med/heavy.  Now if this ball is drilled strong and dulled to 500 grit abralon it can handle heavy oil with ease!  That's a stone cold fact!

The core of the BW is stronger than the PAIN.  It's asymmetrical while the PAIN is symmetrical.  The BW has less mid lane grab than the PAIN.  The cover on the BW is pretty strong as is the PAINS.  Which cover is stronger?  I'm not sure.

Now would I use the PAIN for heavy oil?  Yes and I do!  The PAIN is my heavy oil ball.  In fact my PAIN is an all purpose ball.  I have never had a ball respond so well to all cover grit changes like the PAIN does.

I totally agree with Chitown. The Pains heavy roll combined with a continuous arc (and I DO mean CONTINUOUS) makes it a killer on just about any condition if the cover has been tweaked properly.

As far as it's hitting and carrying power are concerned it's a poor mans No Mercy. It hits just as hard but keeps the pins lower for excellent mix and fewer taps.

I have two of these beasts, one oob and the other spun to a medium shine with "rough Buff" and they are quickly becoming my go to balls (just took me a while to figure out how and when to use them because of their severe forward rolling characteristics).


Bottom line" yes, go with the Pain........your opponents will hate you and that's such a very, very good thing

I am soooooooo single!!!! LOL. No more sneaking 'em into the garage at night while the Mrs is sleeping (LOL).

The balls are only catagorized by manufacturer. Besides the main "wall of balls" there's another bookcase that holds the balls I currently use and cycle through (nm, 2 dooms, 2 pains, 2 bw's, hw, hz, 2 big rig diesels, pearl diesel, total shock and awe, visionary blue slate).


I just sold off about 10 balls on Ebay and plan on further depleting my inventory to decrease the overlap (LOL.....which I have in spades). It's fun though to grab an old favorite like say a Storm Depth Charge and tear up the lanes with it.

My first honor score this year was shot with a Big Rig Diesel I bought on Ebay for $22. So, even though I have a lot of equipment the overall cost is not nearly what people might think.
