Title: Taboo Jet Black
Post by: ToiletLogCore on April 25, 2012, 05:59:29 PM
So I drilled this ball up last night, and got to throw it right away. I threw 5 shots with it on the china and didn't strikes once, so I asked my proshop guy for my money back.

The out of box finish on the Taboo Jet Black is pretty shiny. I've talked to a few individuals with different types of

games and they did feel they got over and under throwing it with the box finish. I told them to take it down then

bring it back up with some shine or even left sheen. They all love it now.

Has to be operator error! Buddy of mine just picked one of these up, and two sets later, has shot 680 and 726 respectively with this ball!

I wouldn't consider 680 and 726 a couple of series for defending how good a ball is with today's conditions and ball reactions. I can shoot those numbers on china with bad ball reaction. Unless of course your buddy is a 170 average, then I'd say there's no reason for him to need a Jet Black.

Definitely not operator error. It was 5 shots after I was fully warmed up. Even had the manager of the bowling alley standing there watching me, and he said the same thing.

@TLC: Well in your very first statement you said you were shooting on "china" with this ball. So how is it suddenly a bad piece of equipment?

My first move would be surface change, when I get a bad reaction. My second move would be re-drill. How does the fact that you didn't strike once, make this a bad ball? You might have been playing on lanes where nothing but plastic had been thrown!

Well, because if it was good, it'd strike on anything, and right away. DUHHH

Well Jesse, I just heard such good things about this ball, I figured it was going to strike right away.

I will get to practice again tonight so maybe I'll get the chance to bowl on lanes more suited for this ball.

I'll be sure to give everyone an update. Who knows maybe after a full game it'll be on here for sale....

Strong ball being thrown on an easy lane condition. My experience with such situations has been such that the lane creates so much over/under that when you use a strong ball, it accentuates the situation.

Some suggestions.....
1. remove the polish.....will smooth out the ball reaction and eliminate the over/under
2. change your release.....play your release more up the back of the ball. the high differential of the Taboo core creates a lot of flare. the last thing it needs on THS is the bowler to add more with the release.
3. add/move weight hole to a flare reducing position....doing so will help the ball achieve the 2nd transition more smoothly and will give you a better entry angle.

I have a Jet Black and I went away from convention when I drilled it. I drilled the ball wi the pin 2-1/2" off my PAP and the mass bias under the thumb. The ball has an awesome roll and the hit is tremendous as long as there is enough oil (read as volume AND length) on the lane. On THS I will stick to my arsenal of Vibes.

Okay, so I got the chance to throw it again last night. I ended up changing the surface like I figured I'd have to when I originally drilled it up. I actually didn't strike a whole lot more but I was able to move as far left as I could and still get this ball back and continuing through the pocket.
Got a very good feeling about this ball now.

I have never had any luck with a new ball until I have thrown at least 15 games with it.  Seems to take a while for it to settle in or for me to get used to it.  Only exception was my latest ball.  Storm Modern Marvel.  Threw a couple of shots in City team, but it hooked out the door.  It went back into the bag.  Next day in doubles i decided to give it another chance.  Moved 8 and 5 left and shot a 752 with a 300 as my second game out of the box.
