Taboo Spare

My Taboo Spare came with the Taboo blue/silver and it has been on a shelf for quite a while. In one league due to the warmer weather the lanes go pretty fast after the first game. This is on a 39 feet of light oil to begin with and outside of 10 goes quick.
I am thinking about drilling the Spare up similar to my Taboo B/S. and knocking off the shine with 4000 Abralon or leave it out of box for now. If you have any insight on the Taboo Spare, I would appreciate it.

The Taboo Spare can make a great ball for truly dry conditions.  But if you want to use the Taboo Spare as a step down from the B/S, then you may not get enough ball.  There is just a really large gap between the two balls.

I bowled with a couple of heavy-handed guys that were able to use the Taboo spare as their primary strike ball on our house shot. The ball offers a decent amount of motion for plastic, and the hit is very good. If you're only dealing with 39-feet of length and the volume is lighter, I could easily see the Taboo Spare being a viable option for you.

For Me and my high rev rate, I like this ball for lanes that are forcing me to loft a weak and smooth reactive. This ball alloes mr to play in the track area with a predictable motion.

I am willing to guess nearly 99% of bowlers have no need for the Taboo Spare as a strike ball.  The OP has not stated any other ball in his arsenal nor has he stated his rev rate, rotation, tilt or speed.  Based on him having a Taboo B/S and a Taboo Spare (the only balls he says he has) how can anyone tell the OP the ball would be a viable option?

If the OP wants a more detailed or better answer, he would need to provide the above information at a minimum for the more knowledgeable people on this website to make an informed recommendation.  In reality, the OP's best option is to discuss this issue with his pro shop, the people who know his game and the conditions he will be bowling on the best.

i used the taboo spare as my primary ball last season.
old wood lanes, little volume
shot 803 with it. carries pretty well for a plastic ball with the weight block in it
anywhere else, wont even wrinkle.

I use a different plastic ball with a core (Lane #1 XXXL) for a strike ball more often than I would have imagined.  Two of the houses I bowl in end in "tweener hell" on a regular basis.  Too much friction outside and no hit inside.  The plastic lets me move back out to the friction and won't over react.  I also use it often for the short PBA shots.  When I move in too much on Viper/Cheetah/Wolf and get a bunch of over/under - move right with plastic.

I'm a slower ball speed slightly rev dominant bowler with very low tilt.  You mileage may vary.  My plastic ball reads the lane beautifully when the conditions are right.

I have been thinking of getting a Taboo spare ball as we'll.  every year I end up throwing my plastic during league and some tournaments when we are bowling on the burn.

I used one for about 95% of my league this season.  Only ball that gives me hold on the "unblend."  On flatter stuff it is a spare ball only.

Thanks for your reply's on the Taboo Spare. My spare ball is a Columbia WD and I have not bowled on a condition yet that the thing hooks. Weak core, plastic and pin on the bottom. This is what I wanted and I really am not looking or trying to replace
my spare ball in any way. I am not looking for the Taboo Spare to be a go to ball, but another option when the lanes dry out in the track area. Some of you seem to be having some success with the plastic with a core.

Got my Taboo spare ball last Friday and shot 214-216-219 on burnt lanes leftover from Thursday night league.  Ball moves very nicely and pin carry much better than my regular plastic spare ball.  Just the ticket for me when caught having to bowl on the toast in tournaments or league.
