Take a look at my stats from this year
« on: February 08, 2007, 08:24:47 AM »
I found this one website where you can keep track of your weekly stats. It is called bowlingtracker.com. I have a link to my stats in my signature.

Disturbing trend in those stats. Your scoring drops every game. You need to learn to follow the shot and adjust to breakdowns better. And as always spare shooting is the biggest key to raising your avg.

Yeah, I noticed that when I first put these scores on here that my scores get worse as the day goes on. Maybe I get tired? But that is one thing I make sure of is that I pick up my spares when I don't strike.

Maybe it doesn't, but sometimes I notice that my ball speed gets slower in the third game.

Do you feel tired after the 2nd game?  My team mate normally throws 15 and complains that after the 2nd game he is tired.  We have the same span (at least he claims it feels the same) so I gave him one of my 14lb balls.  He can throw that all night without any problems.

Have you thought about dropping down to 15lb?  Either that or maybe you just need to practice more - you should be able to bowl more than 3 games without worrying about your ball speed going down!  I'm usually good for about 12 games in a row before I'm done, but I throw 14.  If I move up to 15, I'm good for 4-6 games.

I think I was tired because last week I bowled on Monday, Tueday, Wednesday and Thursday, then I bowled on saturday of course. I went bowling yesterday and about half way through the 3rd game my ball speed started to slow down a little, I think it was because I was bowling really fast. I'm going bowling today with a friend, I'll see how I feel when I get to the third game.

For me the 2nd game is my toughest.  Adjusting to the break down is not always easy.  On tough patterns it sometimes get's tricky.

I noticed alot of your stuff is 16#. I dont know of many people around here that throw 16# anymore. There is no difference between 15# and 16# balls in the opinion of many bowlers. Thats extra weight may be the reason you tire so easily. Another thing is that you shoud be paying attention to the reaction of the pins when you do strike. If you feel you threw a good shot and barely struck its time to move. On a house shot that move is usually 2 left with your feet and 1 left with your eyes. Every little thing helps.

I swithced to 15lb equipment about 2 years ago.  I didn't do it because 16lb was too heavy.  I did it because of two reasons.  First, I was getting a lot of 9 pins.  The ball was just driving too dam hard.  When I switched to 15lb the 9 pins went away.  My carry got a lot better.  Second, is because of wear and tear.  I want to be able to bowl for many years to come and thought the 15lb equipment would be easier on my body.

2 and 1 moves are the standard that do work well.  There are times on tough patterns that different moves need to be taken. Sometimes it's better to move right a little bit to miss carry down.  Other times I find myself making big jumps left to beat the transition.   It's tough where I bowl.  It's like a chess match.

Your totally right about watching your pin fall.  That does seem to help when you get used to doing it.  I also try and keep my eys focused on the ball the entire times down the lane.  It helps letting you know when that HOOK spot develops.  Once that hook spot is there it makes things a lot easier.
