Black Widow Bite~ First Impressions

Well our Black Widow Bites at our center showed up today, and got to give one a run tonight!

It's drilled similar to my Black Widow Solid, pin over ring, cg right slightly, and OOB surface. I was hoping for very similar reactions, but the Bite to be used on a heavier/longer pattern.

Practice balls: stood and aimed where I would with my BW Solid. The came screaming back Brooklyn. Moved left the next 2-3 balls, still went way left. Picked up my speed, and was getting closer on the last practice few balls.

First game: Finally got the speed and line figured out at the end of practice balls. Threw the front 8 strikes, with the ball just flying back on the backend. I did have two Brooklyns, when I got lazy with the speed, but they carried. Ended with 264, with leaving a 4 pin/spare in the 9th frame. Bad tug in the 10th kept me from wrapping up with a 279 though.

Second game: Should have put it away. New ball syndrome, so it's hard to put it up, lol! Struggled out a 174, trying to move further left and tinkering with speed, but it just wasn't going to be had.

Third game: Went to the Black Widow Solid, playing the same line I had with the Bite, and ended with 226.

Overall this is one of THE most impressive balls I've thrown since the first Black Widow came out. It out hooks, and has MORE backend than my original does. I didn't think that could be possible. This ball out hooks that one, and my Anger by far. It might not be able to make it past the first game on our THS, but for tournaments, it should be money. The recovery of the Bite is unreal. I threw a few that got way outside, and it made it home everytime. Can't wait to get some more games on this baby!

I really didn't think this ball would be that much different in boards than my Anger or BW Solid. I'm very impressed that it's more ball, and will fit perfect on some heavier or longer patterns for sure. Great ball Hammer!

 Sounds like a ball that MAY move more than 6 boards in our house. HHHmmmmmmm.........

I got a different reaction than I thought I would. For me this ball plays more to a medium to light oil ball. It is super clean through the heads but makes a strong turn to the pocket. I would but it slightly above my Wrath High Flush. My pin up and down Rivals both stronger than this ball.

I was really surprised how much stronger this ball is. For tourney shots, or anything else that plays too heavy for the BW, the Bite should be perfect. I can't wait to give it a run on something heavier or longer.

My Anger, before it cracked on me, was drilled pin over bridge, cg kicked right, @ 500 abralon. The Bite is even suprisingly stronger than it was. The Anger I believe is still truely a "heavy" oil ball, with a different look.

Is it a fair comparison?  The original BW might have 500+ games on it being a year old.  Not matter how much you clean them, aggressive balls tend to become tamer over time.

Kinf of off topic but kind of not.  I see you're selling your Thing....Strider.  How many games and how much loss of hook did you see?

The BW does have a number of games on it yes, and it's cleaned very well. So there is somewhat a strength difference there I'm sure, but it hasn't lost much reaction whatsoever from it's "new" state. The Bite for me is still more ball than the BW was new right out of the box though.

My comparison is the line which I'm able to play from one to the other. Fair in comparing a ball a year old with a brand new, no. But as for the reactions I get, and line I'm able to play every night with it, yes. Lol, hope that makes sense.

What layout did you use?




I couldnt tell you what the layout is but it's drilled pin under the ring with the MB to right and below of the thumb about 2 inches.

Scott, under 100 games on the Thing.  It's never lost any hook that I've noticed, but that's why I'm selling it.  I just never matched up well with it.  Tried a second drilling on it, but it's still a 10 pin magnet for me.

That's my point Fatboy.  There no way to know.  Although it still hooks a lot and hits well, there's no way to compare a well used ball X to a brand new ball X.  No matter how well you take care of it, a new ball still reacts different than one with 100+ games on it.  Whether it's a better midlane read or a little more angular there is usually a noticeable difference.  I have a Nighthawk M2 with well over 1000 games on it.  I seriously doubt it's "like new", but it still works great on a variety of shots.  I certainly couldn't make a fair comparison between my ancient M2 and the new Nighthawk Pearl

Ok I put a few more games on it today on lunch brake. Not sure why but this ball got stronger as the practice session went on. Not the usuall 1-2 board move, but a 3-5 board jump. No the oil didnt break down, I think I had to develope a track on this thing. Now I can say this ball is super strong off the spot and handles the oil a lot better than it did. This ball is def a keeper in my bag.
