Black Widow's and what difference?
« on: October 16, 2008, 02:36:45 AM »
Hi, my first time here..

Ok i have a Black Widow "black" and Bite. The black i put it in gloss for long reaction and the Bite is for short reaction, but what does the venom?? i like to have a long strech ball but with a agressive reaction...

Some bowlers here in Puerto Rico, said that Ebonite make balls for Hammer and the cover stock is very poor and losse agression and reaction in the lanes, is very truth??

Ilike more information and statics or drilling for the Venom, let me know.

 Thanks

I'll try to make this brief.

Ebonite is the parent company for Hammer, Track, and Columbia300. They all have their own research & development, and use different production lines even though the plant is in Kentucky. Some shared principles of coverstock chemistry are used, but each brand has a specific type of reaction or market strategy.

That being said, there are reports from many that say because of the oil absorbing nature of the covers for Hammer and Ebonite, they have seen ball reaction decrease. Counterarguments say that with proper ball maintenance, you shouldn't have a problem. Cleaning, resurfacing, hot water soaks, and rejuvenators help immensely when done properly.

As for the Black Widow line you have two strong balls and the right idea on how to use them. The Venom will give you better length than the Solid (or "Black" as you called it) and a consistent, strong, and snappier backend than the Solid or Bite. Better when you have slightly shorter oil or second-shift/bowled on lanes.

Here is my take on it...for what it is worth!

BW - STILL the BEST ball hammer makes!!  VERY adaptable to all lanes/conditions based on layout and cover prep.  Reads midlane well with very strong reaction down lane.

BWP - Not a typical pearll - reads the mids MORE then the BW and doesn't have the hit that the BW does - I drilled 3 of these and have no more then 12 games total between them!!

BWBITE - very strong cover - good for the soup - not overly adaptable to multiple conditions - reads the lane EARLY.

BWVENOM - Now we have a BW PEARL!!  This ball gets down the lane very cleanly and gives a strong reaction at the break point!!

This is my quick rundown of the BW lineup!!

The Sauce has a larger hook rating than the Venom but the Venom is longer
