Black Widow Question
« on: December 21, 2006, 06:14:37 AM »
I bought a 15lb Black Widow online last week. Im going to be getting it drilled tonight. I don't know much about pin placement, but I like to play a little belly shot.  When I get too much backend I really have trouble leaving 10 pins. I know the Black Widow has tremendous backend, but I want it to start hooking a little earlier so I can avoid those pesky 10 pins. Anyone know a good layout to suggest for when I get my ball drilled tonight?

Hmm, your driller should be able to help you on this but You would probably want the mass bias at 45 degrees and the pin below the fingers. I know this is general but it is a typical earlier rolling drilling and in the strong mass bias ball like the Widow you can really control the break point by getting the mass bias towards your axis point.

If you have trouble with a lot of backend then i wouldnt recomend the Black Widow. Seeing how u already purchased the ball, and you want the ball to pickup earlier and kidd a little on the backend theres a few things you can do.

1) Place the Pin below the fingers. This creates earlier roll, none the less using more energy in the front and less on the backed.

2) Put the Mass Bias on or past your VAL (vertical axis line) This will also get it to roll up early and easy creating early rev and less backend.

3) After drilling, add a weight hole to take out some finger weight and add a little thumb weight. Thumb weight starts a early roll. Actually u dont need thumb, just drill the fingers a little deeper to take out some of the finger weight.

Drill your bw with the pin above the ring finger kick out the mass biass at 90 degrees. THis set up will get the bw to go long and then have a smooth arc into the pocket instead of a skid flip reaction.
