Well im ordering my new arsenal tomorrow and am torn between the Black Widow Pearl or the Doom. I need some advice! The Arsenal will consist of Anger (Heavy), Black Widow Bite (Heavy mediums), BW Pearl/Doom (Mediums), and Blue Vibe (lights. I have heard obvious good things about the Pearl but the Doom has been catching my eye. Any thoughts?

My pearl is stronger in the mids than my doom. Overall they are close in total reaction. The one issue is the Doom seems to be more versitale for me while the BWP is huge hit or miss.

I do find the BWP less suseptable to carrydown though it seems to labor at times.

I personally think the Doom is the way to go, but that is just my opinion from first hand observations.

yes the versatility aspect is what is leading me towards the doom. Will the doom still have an angular backend when drilled accordingly compared to the pearl?

I would definitely say the Doom. Although the BWP is a great ball, it was a little condition specific for me, no matter the surface I tried on it. The Doom however, is definitely still angular, I can throw it on anything, and it takes surface changes very well. Awesome ball, and as a bonus, you'll save a little money going that way as well.

I agree with the Doom as well. And I will probably get flamed for this but.....If you take the cover down to even 4000 and no polish, it will be stronger than the BWP at the same grit, especially in the mid-lane.

I"ve got the BWP and the Doom, both drilled the same. The Widow is a stronger ball, with alot of backend. The Doom is more arcing instead of the hockey stick motion of my BWP.

I use the BWP at 4000 abralon with no polish, and the Doom highly polished. Both are great balls, with specific purposes. The Doom surface might adjust better than the BWP, to accomadate more conditions though.

which ball do you think will be most angular on a medium to lighter mediums? Will the BWP burn up as opposed to the doom? Will carrydown be a factor with the doom?

Carrydown will cause problem for every single pearl ball on the market! With pearl equipment you need to go around the carry down.

I would think the BWP would be more angular because of the core but if drilled for flip the DOOM can snap hard on the correct conditions.

I never owned a BWP but have had many DOOMS. The DOOM is one hell of a bowling ball and takes to cover changes well. The DOOM is a very versatile and works well on tougher patterns.

That doesn't surprise me at all! The DOOM is a very strong ball when the polish is knocked off the cover.

heck, even with the polish on it's pretty darn strong on a house shot! this thing hooks A LOT more than i expected.

DOOOOOOM, BWP is an over under POS. Say what you will, but that core does not belong in a pearl of that nature.

Obviously the BWP and the DOOM are good balls and are marketed for medium lanes. But I would caution...watch out for the Blue Vibe. The BV is marketed for medium to light...but if you read posts around this site and on the Hammer site you will see that the BV can be a lot stronger than advertised and most recommend having it drilled weaker.

That being said...I just got a BV this week and used it last night in league. I got the BV so it would be my medium to light ball. I had the ProShop drill it weaker. After last night...in which I threw a 714...this ball will be my medium ball. The BV is also a versatile ball and takes to cover changes really well.

I was also thinking of the BWP or DOOM, but went with the BV first to see what it does for me...then plan accordingly for my next ball in my arsenal.

I've thrown them all and on a house shot my favorite ball to match your arsenal is probably a Cherry Vibe. Drill it stronger than your blue. It will retain energy and be phenomenal on medium oil. The Widow Pearl is quite strong. It needs fresh to be at its' best. The Doom isn't bad, but it seems to turn the corner and die on some shots. It gets the length, but doesn't seem to be any better than the Cherry Vibe.

I think your assessment of the DOOM is very different than what i've seen from that ball. If both balls are in box condition the DOOM is going to handle more oil than the Cherry Vibe. The DOOM also has more mid-lane read and is more of a controllable pearlized reactive.

I have never seen the DOOM turn the corner and die on any pattern. Are you sure the ball didn't hit a patch of carry down and slide out?
