Tonight was my every other week league. I do not know when they oil, but there is a league in front of the one I'm on. They may have open play before that. It's really a mixed bag as far as what kind of shot I'm going to get.

I only bring 2 balls...a pin down Widow with 75 degree MB at OOB and a Shock and Awe. Tonight the shot played kind of odd...there was a ton of carrydown in the middle of the lane, but the outsides still seemed fairly dry. It also appeared that a lot of the midlane oil was gone. I came to this conclusion by noticing that my Widow was quite a bit mellower on the backend than usual. It was still making the turn fine, but it seemed to be burning up slightly, causing it to arc more. The shot was very playable with the infinite hold in the middle and the dry outsides, as long as I was firm with my speed.

Anyhow, a friend of mine had gotten a Toxic earlier in the week. The layout is very similar to my Widow, except it had a weight hole on the midline while the Widow is without. I tried it out the last game of league, and scored very well with it. From what I saw, it was slightly earlier than my BW, but was also more angular with a stronger finish at the deck.

I'm wondering if I have this ball pegged right. It read the dry more strongly than the BW, probably due to the polished pearl as opposed to the sanded solid covers. On a fresh shot, I would assume that it would go a tad longer but still be more angular on the backend. I'm asking this because I'm considering it for a ball under the BW, and if what I'm seeing is correct, then it won't really fill the need. I have a feeling that it would react too strongly to dry when the Widow needs to be bagged for burning up too much. Any replies would be appreciated.

Raven,

I do not personally own these two, but my friend Kevin does and has shot very well with them. The Widow, drilled the same as his Toxic (stacked leverage), turns over a little sooner with a bit more of an "archy" motion. The Toxic is usually his ball of choice when he wants to clear the heads, get down the lane a little smoother, and make a kick-turn left. The Widow has a tendency in box condition to lose power when the carrydown hits, and Kev leaves a lot of corners that the Toxic knocks out.

When swinging, both balls travel around the same. The Toxic and Widow both come quick off the dry, it just depends on how the oil lasts in your house and your personal luck with corners and hit.

I have the Toxic and it does clear the fronts really well and takes a hard left turn once it hits the dry boards.

It is definatly a med oil ball I have tried to throw it on a flooded shot and it does not move that much at all. I am looking to add either the No Mercy or Black Widow for a heavy oil ball

The TOXIC (box condition) has almost zero mid-lane read and a huge back end move. If the heads and mid-lane are dry and there's a lot of miss area on the lane the TOXIC will work good. If your bowling on a condition that require accuracy then the TOXIC should sit in the bag.

The TOXIC will respond to friction more than the BW will. The BW has a little more mid lane grab and doesn't flip as much. The BW will handle heavier amounts of oil than the TOXIC.
